Empshott Lodge, which is not Listed, was believed to have been built in 1860 on the site of Chases Farm. It was built for Colonel Butler to a design by the Winchester Cathedral Architect, John Colson, who designed a number of churches and vicarages. It is built in the Elizabethan style, over three floors with Selborne Stone and red brick dressings under tiled roofs. Particularly notable are the original doors, staircase and joinery and the Elizabethan style chimneys which have just been repaired. The property oozes charm and character and the well proportioned rooms provide spacious, flexible accommodation.
Gardens and Grounds
Empshott Lodge is approached over a long gravelled drive to a large parking area at the front of the house. Empshott is an ancient farming settlement situated 2 miles south of Selborne in the Hangers of East Hampshire in the South Downs National Park. The villages of Hawkley and Greatham are both 2 miles distant, Greatham has a Nursery and a Primary School and Hawkley has a Montessori Nursery, a pretty village green and the popular 'Hawley Inn'. The Hangers Way is a 21 mile walking route which has been divided into 8 sections and can be joined in Empshott, making it ideal for long country walks.
The thriving town of Petersfield is close by and has a wide range of shops, two supermarkets, restaurants and a leisure centre whilst the mainline stations at Petersfield, Alton and Liss provide a fast service to London Waterloo. Guildford, Winchester and Chichester are within easy reach and have more extensive shopping and leisure facilities.
