Situated on the edge of the village in a pretty semi-rural location known as Sowden, an attractive piece of land, gently sloping with stunning 180 degree views looking West along the Exe Estuary. Situation

Lympstone grew from an ancient settlement on the eastern shores of the Exe estuary. The village built its reputation on maritime trade and agriculture and about 100 fishing vessels operated from the area towards the end of the 19th Century, when Lympstone was particularly celebrated for its whitebait and the quality of its oysters. The village has four public houses, a well established primary school, village stores and a train service operating between Exeter and Exmouth. There is a village website at Lympstone.org and there is a lively sailing club and a wide selection of clubs and societies.

Directions

Head towards Exmouth along the A376 passing through Ebford, Exton and Lympstone Marine Base. After half a mile, at the traffic lights by The Saddlers Arms, turn right into Longmeadow Road and then first left. Follow this road for approximately a quarter of a mile and turn left into Courtlands Lane and then first right into Sowden Lane. Follow the lane to the right and then left. The field is on the left hand side.

Alternatively, after the Marine Camp take the next right signposted Lower Lympstone. Continue down Nutwell Lane around two right and left s-bends, road becomes Burgmans Hill. At the T-junction turn right into The Strand, past the train station and central stores, after The Globe continue up the hill and then down to Sowden End. Follow round the 90 degree left hand bend, continue under the train bridge until a right and left bend by Southtown House. Turn next right (before Courtlands Lane), past Sowden Farm, Sowden Cottage and Orchard Barn. After the left hand bend, "Great Orchard" is on the right, half way up the hill.
