4 bedroom detached house for sale

Inkles Haugh, Stable Green, Mitford, Morpeth, NE61

Sold STC £699,000

Property Description

Full description

Nestled in the heart of the historic village of Mitford, Inkles Haugh is a detached family house, adjacent to the Norman church and castle, offering well laid out accommodation. Surrounded by a well-kept, pretty garden, the house has the benefit of river views with a delightful terrace overlooking the river Wansbeck.

Built in 1989 by Tolent, designed by award winning architect Peter Dowen and commissioned by the current owners, the house is built from reclaimed stone believed to be originally from the nearby Norman castle, under a traditional Northumbrian slate roof. Fixtures and fittings are of the highest standard with the kitchen, study and sitting room incorporating furniture designed by the Newcastle Furniture Company. The house has been beautifully finished and retains much character and charm.

The property is approached along Stable Green, a private road, owned by the Mitford Estate and maintained by the residents of the 8 properties sharing access. Double oak timber gates open onto a York stone gravelled driveway, providing ample parking for several cars and leading to a double garage with a workshop and log store attached. The south facing aspect of the house is laid to lawn with mature trees and hedges providing excellent privacy and seclusion. Steps lead down the side of the garden, providing access to a terraced garden area by the river, with a pretty and tranquil seating area, ideal for early evening drinks.

On entering the property, the double height reception hall has been well designed and is filled with light from various sources including an internal feature window on the galleried landing and glazed internal doors. The principal rooms lead from here and include the drawing room, study and dining room, all of which are well proportioned with views over the surrounding gardens. The internal hallway leads through to two ground floor bedrooms, a family bathroom and a good sized kitchen breakfast room, which in turn leads through to the snug/family room.
Stairs from the reception hall lead to the first floor giving access to the beautiful master suite, with views overlooking the river, and comprising "his and hers" dressing rooms with ensuite bathroom. The guest suite is also on the first floor with an ensuite bathroom and delightful views of the castle.

Mitford is a very pretty village, steeped in history with a Norman castle, beautiful church and The Plough public house, giving the village a real sense of community. Located two miles from the historic market town of Morpeth with its award winning Sanderson arcade and family run Rutherfords department store, the area is well provided for with an excellent selection of local shops, supermarkets, bars and restaurants and is a regular winner of 'Northumbria in bloom'. The local, King Edward VI High School, recently received an "Outstanding" grading from OFSTED, whilst the area is also well provided for with good first and middle schools. Morpeth is well located on the East Coast Mainline, providing excellent access by train to London and Scotland, whilst the nearby A1 provides excellent road links to all areas. Newcastle International Airport is 15 minutes away, whilst Newcastle city centre is 20 minutes.

From the A1 northbound, take the A197 exit towards Morpeth. At the roundabout, take the 1st exit and continue to the T-junction with Bet's Lane. At Bet's Lane, turn right and continue to the next T-junction where you turn left. Continue on past Gubeon Wood on your right hand side and at the next T-junction turn right. Continue across the B6524 and over the beck to the next T-junction and turn right, following the road with the river Wansbeck on your left. After the church take the first left into Stables Green (before the bridge over the River Wansbeck) and Inkles Haugh is on your right, indicated by our For Sale board.
