The Vendor's View - My parents bought the property virtually off plan in 1992, having moved here from Kenya. The fabulous uninterrupted views over the countryside were the most important factor for my father who had been a farmer for many years and needed to look out over fields. The view across The Downs from the rear of the house are breath-taking, and, being an area of outstanding natural beauty, is guaranteed to remain unspoilt.
The size of the house was perfect for my parents. The design is both spacious and functional, which allowed all of us to visit and stay together. My mothers room was my favourite room, which offered plenty of space with a balcony, which enjoyed the spectacular views. Its a very honest house, what it says on the label, it is. Its the penultimate property on a no through road so offers great privacy.
The location offers an ideal mix of countryside and seaside. It's close enough to Canterbury, Dover and London without the hassle that comes with living in built up suburbia. The area has charm without being cut off, and its just far enough off the beaten track.
The area is very popular with walkers, and there are some lovely local walks. I particularly like Pine Gardens on the way down into the bay, which has the most fabulous collection of freesias and some stunning sculptures in the gardens including a beautiful statue of Winston Churchill, along with a tea room and a small museum. There are lots of little pubs in the surrounding villages and along the coast line, and it's lovely to be able to go out and have an explore with somewhere nice to eat and drink close by.
My father rattled around here in his later years and was very happy. He saw no point in selling the house because we could all go and stay, and as our families expanded we could still go and stay, just not at the same time! We all hold very fond memories of the property, which has been a big part of our lives for so many years. Although we were adults when our parents bought the property it has still been our home and we will greatly miss it.
