The Story

The spacious Stoke Poges property has been beautifully renovated and upgraded by the couple, who have brought their creative eye to its living spaces and their flair for design to its interiors."Initially it was the location of Thanda House that appealed to me," one of them explains. "Its proximity to Gerrards Cross and to London was a great attraction - it takes just 18 minutes to get into Marylebone by train from here and with the Crossrail coming to Slough too this is an ideal situation to be in. But the house itself was also very exciting - it offered light living space that held great potential to be modernised and given a bright, new contemporary finish."

LIGHT FANTASTIC
The first six months were spent taking Thanda House right back to basics, stripping out its existing decorative features and opening it up on the ground floor to bring in even more natural light. "As you come into the house it now has a much more open-plan, American feel," he explains. "The galleried entrance hall brings an immediate sense of space and, with its enormous window, it is filled with light from above. To the left, the hall flows easily into the long drawing room, which reaches right from the front to the back of the house. With windows at either end, this room is also incredibly bright."

MODERN LIVING
To the other side of the entrance hall, walls have been removed to bring seamless movement into the expansive kitchen dining room. This also has windows at either end, and has been designed to offer outstanding family living space. The open-plan layout allows for plenty of room for both food preparation and dining. "This is a fantastic room: the bespoke kitchen that was here already was rebuilt, using the existing solid oak, and was stained black to give it a stylish, modern look. Wonderful new impala granite work surfaces were added and we created a central island. High specification Neff appliances and an American-style Panasonic fridge-freezer were also brought in."

A PERFECT FIT
The majority of Thanda House was replastered and given new cornicing and spot lighting. Subtle shades of contemporary grey and off-white were chosen and rooms were professionally decorated. New oak floors and carpets were laid. "It does feel like a brand new house inside now - the finish throughout is excellent," he observes. The double garage was transformed into a full, working gym, with high quality equipment, which could be available by separate negotiation to the next owners if required. "It was specially fitted out by Idass, who supply professional gyms with their ranges of equipment," he adds. "It has been designed for the space and is a great addition to the home. Equally, however, new owners may prefer to have the garage for their cars or to use the space for something different altogether."

ENTERTAINING AT HOME
Above all, Thanda House offers great versatility. In addition to the main drawing room there is a second sitting or family room, which could again have a variety of different uses.
"Having two main rooms so some people can watch television while others read quietly or listen to music is ideal; it also makes entertaining very easy," he says. "The layout of this house is perfect for anyone who enjoys welcoming friends and hosting parties. We have an eight-seat table in the dining area but a much larger one would fit in quite comfortably and the garden is excellent for summer occasions. We have a hot tub and fire pit out there; this has been lovely on summer evenings, when we have had friends round."

EXCEPTIONAL PLACE
Friends with children have enjoyed being able to relax in an environment where there is plenty of space to play. "We spend a lot of time out in the garden when the weather is warm - it is sunny and very private. There is also generous space in the front as the house is set well back." Subject to the relevant planning permissions there could be scope to extend Thanda House further, he suggests. The property currently has four bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, including the master suite, with its dressing room. Extension work could see the addition of another master suite. "This house is ready to be moved into and enjoyed as it is but could also be taken on even further by new owners with planning permission already granted for a two storey extension and an additional rear extension," he adds. "It is a lovely light home, which is always very warm, and offers space and stylish living, from its exceptional position in Stoke Poges."

Setting the Scene

Thanda House sits in a peaceful position, set back from the road with a deep front garden, with an expanse of lawn, and an extensive driveway.
The house opens up on to an enclosed rear garden, which is laid to lawn and has areas of paved terrace. The current owners have arranged the terraces with a hot tub, fire pit and furniture for outside dining and relaxation. The gardens are well screened, with lots of mature planting.

Whats Nearby

Country footpaths take you to the Red Lion public house and there are a number of other character pubs within easy walking distance. Also within the vicinity is Stoke Park Golf and Country Club with championship golf course and tennis, and also a spa. Three further golf courses are nearby and there are many other golf clubs in the surrounding area including The Buckinghamshire, Gerrards Cross and Denham golf clubs. The Nuffield health and fitness centre is within jogging distance and also offers a crèche. Within Easy Reach

Thanda House is conveniently close to the A40, M40 and M25 and within a short drive of the M4 and Heathrow Airport. Gatwick, Luton and Stansted airports are also readily accessible. Gerrards Cross station offers an excellent service to London Marylebone taking approximately 20 minutes. There are fast and frequent rail services to London and Reading from Slough Station and Metropolitan and Piccadilly tube lines operate from Uxbridge.

DIRECTIONS:

Travelling west from London on the A40, follow signs to Gerrards Cross and turn left at the traffic lights onto the Windsor Road B146. Continue through a second set of traffic lights and pass under the motorway flyover. Continue along this road passing the Fox & Pheasant restaurant on your right. Arriving in Stoke Poges you will find the doctors surgery and shops on your right, take the left turn into Hollybush Hill and after a short distance you will come to Thanda House on your left hand side.
