5 bedroom detached house for sale

Nursteed Village, Devizes, Wiltshire, SN10

Sold STC £895,000

Property Description

Full description

Tenure: Freehold

Dating back to the 17th Century, Grade II listed Nursteed Farmhouse was restored, extended and updated from roof to cellar just over eight years ago and is now that most delightful of things; a picture book period exterior with a virtually new, warm and comfortable interior. The current owners have landscaped and created a truly magical garden from scratch and there is now a pretty enclosed cottage garden to the front, a large flagged terrace to the rear overlooking lawns with borders, trees and steps leading the eye up over the tiny stream at the bottom and onto the borrowed landscape beyond.

Throughout the house there are solid wood ledge and boarded doors, a handmade Maywood Furniture kitchen, under floor heating downstairs and a multi fuel stoves in both the sitting and dining rooms whilst the drawing room has an open fire, all with Bath stone surrounds. There is attention to detail at every turn and this high quality house is also a much loved home.

There is a mellow parking barn to the side of the house which comprises open parking, a garage and a useful workshop and log store, the private gravelled driveway has space for plenty of parking. To the far side of the terrace there is a state of the art greenhouse with power and water and plenty of space at the potting bench.

With lovely and impressive views all around at this end of the Vale of Pewsey, Nursteed Village is a peaceful dot on the map just below Salisbury Plain. The recent ring road, Windsor Drive is on the edge of the village and gives very easy access to both the Marlborough / Swindon and the Andover sides

The Market Place in the centre of town is about three miles away and is home to a vibrant weekly produce and antiques market. There are a variety of supermarkets, cafes and restaurants as well as a cinema, leisure centre and theatre. Communications are excellent in the area with Pewsey, where there is a mainline railway station (Paddington around 70 minutes) around nine miles to the east and there is a mainline railway station (Paddington just over an hour) at Chippenham, slightly further to the west. Access to either the M4 or M3 is a short distance away.

The major centres of Marlborough, Bath and Salisbury are all within a twenty five mile radius. Schooling is good locally; in the private sector there are schools at Daunstey's, Marlborough College and St Margaret's and St Mary's, Calne. Nearby are also several primary schools and a secondary school in Devizes and in Market Lavington.

This part of Wiltshire is particularly noted for sporting opportunities including riding, walking and shooting. There are golf courses at Blacklands and at Bowood, both within a fifteen minute drive.

From The Market Place in Devizes head out towards Andover on the Nursteed Road. Continue until you come to a roundabout where you should turn left onto Windsor Drive. At the next mini roundabout, take the third exit signposted as Nursteed Village, 'no through road'. After a few yards, just after the speed bumps, turn left into the long private driveway leading to Nursteed Farm House.
