Situation - Between Lostwithiel and Lerryn, Cutbrawn Farmhouse is situated in a particularly beautiful and unspoilt part of Cornwall, sandwiched between the historic Boconnoc Estate and close to the wonderful River Fowey estuary.

Once home to the novelist Daphne Du Maurier, the Rivery Fowey is a beautiful estuary which joins the sea off south Cornwall between Readymoney Cove and Polruan, stretching upstream for about six miles to the historic town of Lostwithiel with a good deep water channel until just short of Golant and Cliff. With villages such as Pont, Pill Creek and Lerryn feeding in from the river, the majority of the area, and Cutbrawn Farmhouse itself, is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and much of the wooded banks are in the ownership of the National Trust. The beautiful coastal footpath known as the Hall Walk runs between Polruan and Bodinnick and continues along the south Cornish coast. The pretty harbour town of Fowey on the opposite bank is one of Cornwalls most historic and unspoilt seaport towns renowned for its safe deep water anchorage and sailing.

Just a mile away, St. Winnow is a picturesque village with a church located on the waters edge of the River Fowey, situated to the east of the old stannary town of Lostwithiel, through which the River Fowey runs. Lostwithiel is a place of historical interest, with its pretty narrow streets containing many antique and craft shops as well as other services catering for every day needs.

There are schools and a community centre. For the walking enthusiast, the area boasts many interesting walks along the river and through the leafy lanes to Restormel Castle. And for the keen golfer, Lanhydrock Golf Course, one of the finest golf courses in the South West, is just seven miles away. Lostwithiel also has a mainline railway station offering services to London Paddington.

Nearby Lerryn is a fascinating village that sits astride, and is divided by, the tidal River Lerryn, which is a tributary of the River Fowey further downstream. In past centuries the village was a hive of activity: large boats from Fowey brought limestone, coal, fertilisers, grain, sand and timber to the village for distribution to the surrounding farms and estates up until 1918. In the villages heyday, it was a venue for annual regattas that were likened to Henley with spectators viewing from both sides of the river. The village today has a pub, shop and primary school.

In the summer months Fowey is a haven for sailors with the Royal Fowey Yacht Club and the Gallants Sailing Club at opposite ends of the main street, both overlooking the harbour and moored yachts, both playing host to regular racing. The harbour has all the activity of a busy working port with ships of many nations entering and leaving. Car and passenger ferries link the nearby Bodinnick and Polruan with Fowey, and run constantly during daylight hours providing easy access to the towns shops and other amenities.
