History and Heritage 
Heybote was built in approximately 1938 for the niece of Neville Chamberlain who was the British Prime Minister from 1937 until 1940. The servants’ quarters of the house with the original bells are still apparent today. It is said that Chamberlain’s niece used to attend many lunches with her uncle at Chequers, the Prime Minister’s country retreat. She used a footpath that led from Heybote through Chequers Estate land, right up to the back door of Chequers itself.
