The Story

Visitors to the Barn at Maiden's Green tend to be awestruck from the moment they step inside. The imposing property still presents magnificent original features and has a presence that never fails to impress.
"One of the nicest things about living here is seeing the look on people's faces when they walk into the main living area," says the owner. "The first time they visit they always says how amazing it is. It does have incredible 'wow factor' and whenever anyone remarks upon it, it reminds me just how lucky I am to live here."

BARN BEAUTIFUL
The current owner moved to the Barn six years ago, having been attracted by both its beauty and its location. The barn, which is Grade II Listed, dates back to the 16th century and was once part of a working farm.
"I believe this is where the horses were kept and parts of the building were a hay loft," he explains. "I loved it as soon as I saw it. With its beautiful oak beams, high ceiling and mezzanine levels, it was completely different to everything else I had been looking at."

FUN AND GAMES
The Barn, which was converted in 2000, was in excellent condition but a few enhancements have been made by the current owner.
"We opened the kitchen up and had a new one installed, complete with breakfast bar," he says. "But the main change has been the addition of a new games room, with a mezzanine and new bedroom. This now looks lovely, with a new oak floor, and could have all sorts of uses - it is very versatile. I was initially thinking it could be a home gym for me and perhaps eventually a bedroom and living space for my daughter. Someone else could make it into an annexe for a relative, perhaps. It is a wonderful extra space!"

AMAZING SPACE
Life at the Barn is centered around the stunning main living area, where there is space for comfortable seating, dining and entertaining.
"This is where we spend most of our time," he says. "It is a lovely place to sit in the evening or to entertain friends. It really is enormous: we even had a 15ft trampoline in there for a while and you could hardly notice it - it was just tucked in behind the television. My daughter also used to ride her bike around the room when she was little!"

GRAND ENTERTAINING
Different areas in the room can be arranged for various functions and, with doors on to the garden, the space also works well for indoor outdoor living.
"We have had a lot of parties here over the years - the Barn is perfect for that. We held my daughter's christening, with about 150 guests and because there was so much room, and everyone was able to spread out, it didn't feel crowded at all."
Above the main room are two mezzanine levels. One of these is currently used as a bedroom while the other is an office; then there are three other bedrooms.
"Having the games room area now brings even more flexibility when it comes to using all these spaces. This is a home that can be enjoyed in different ways."

DESIRABLE VILLAGE
Maiden's Green is a highly desirable village, which people are keen to move into and tend to stay for a long time, he says.
"I am only leaving now because I am moving abroad," he admits. "Living here has been perfect for us: the schools are good, we are close to both Windsor and Bracknell and we have excellent access to the M3, M4 and M24."
There are good pubs and restaurants in the area, Stirrups Country House hotel is renowned for its food and the Oaktree Garden Centre is also a popular place to visit.
"We are surrounded by picturesque countryside yet in a location that is also very convenient for getting into London and travelling to other parts of the country," he says. "This house itself is beautiful and offers living space that is not only incredibly versatile but is also truly unique."

Setting the Scene

The Barn is set in grounds that have been landscaped by the current owner.
There is plenty of off-road parking on a large shingle driveway area and the garden is most lawned. The grounds are bordered by leafy trees. There is an alfresco dining area, with an attractive fish pond.
