The Story

Sitting out on her balcony, overlooking her immaculate front garden, the owner cannot help but feel proud of everything she and her husband have achieved.
Within an exclusive corner of Gerrards Cross they have created a modern masterpiece, a home which was designed to offer every comfort they were seeking. "We wanted to be in Gerrards Cross because it offered a sense of country living as well as excellent access into central London - from the train station you can be at Marylebone within 20 to 25 minutes," she explains. "This particular plot was a good size, just right for the large house we wanted to build. It was also well-positioned for the sunshine and the light, and gave us the opportunity to create a house with a nice driveway."

A CLEAR VIEW
The couple oversaw the removal of the existing property from the site and poured over plans for their new home: every last detail was carefully considered.
"There were certain features we felt it was important to include: we wanted a large, open-plan drawing room, for example, and lots of windows throughout the house to bring the light streaming in," she says. "I wanted an entrance hall which was also very bright and spacious, and had a beautiful, bespoke wooden staircase; this was cleverly designed to ensure that as you step in through the front door you have a view straight through the house and into the back garden."

LEAFY AND GREEN
Leonacco was also designed to incorporate five generous bedrooms, three of which have their own bathroom. There are two more bedrooms, plus a family bathroom, on the first floor, together with two bonus room, which could become additional bedrooms, and a shower room in the loft space. "There are lovely green views to the front and back of the house from the bedrooms, as we look out over our own gardens," she says. "The master bedroom also has doors on to a balcony, where you can sit and gaze across the front garden towards the trees."

RELAX AND UNWIND
The sizeable reception areas have been brought together to blend style and comfort. Leonacco is a home to return home to relax in and the end of a busy day.
"I really like the main living area and kitchen, where everyone can spend time together when they get home. I can be cooking and still chat to my family while they watch television or the children play," she says. "The appeal of this house, however, is that it also has rooms that you can go off into if you want some privacy - the library is the perfect place to sit and read quietly or there is the television room if you want to watch something in peace."

SPACE TO ENTERTAIN
In the summer, doors in the main living area are pulled right back on to the garden: the inside and outside space become one and everyone wanders in and out freely.
"This space is also fantastic in the winter, however, as we have a lovely remote controlled gas fireplace to gather round." The open-plan area is wonderful for parties. In the summer guests spill out into the garden, while in the colder months there is plenty of room to dine at the long table. "It is very easy to have lots of people in this house - we have family who live abroad and visit us frequently and everyone is always very comfortable."

THE FINE DETAIL
The couple, who have now decided to downsize, admit they will miss the ease of life at Leonacco. Everything has been created to offer them the perfect lifestyle.
"We do love the area, however, and hope to stay close by," the owner admits. "We really enjoyed the process of building this house and making it our own, considering everything from the high levels of insulation to the under-floor heating, the layout of the house and the decoration." Her real pride and joy is the staircase, she says. Visitors always comment on it and she still loves its sleek design."It took me three months to get it just right but I still enjoy it now as much as I did when we first put it in," she adds. "It works beautifully within the house as a whole."

Setting The Scene

Leonacco is set back from the road, with attractive gardens to the front and back. It is set behind remotely operated gates and is behind a front oval driveway, where there is plenty of parking. There is a detached double garage, with conservatory to the rear. Behind, the house opens up on to an entertaining terrace and enclosed lawned garden, with a slate paved terrace and barbecue area.
