The Story

When Ray Ferris bought his house, nearly 13 years ago, it looked completely different to the spectacular property which stands on Park Lane today.
“I’m not sure when the house was built, I think around the 1990s,” he explains.
“It actually belonged to a friend of mine, and I was living nearby in Caerphilly.”
But for Ray, the home, situated just outside Cardiff, was the perfect blank canvas. It had a unique exterior with exposed timberwork and glorious views across the landscape.
“When I bought it, I decided to transform absolutely everything. I took it right back to the four walls and then I redesigned everything myself.”

SOPHISTICATED STYLE
The spacious hallway gives a flavour of the impressive makeover Ray has mastered. An abundance of light pours through the open space with a stunning split staircase at the centre of the room, leading to a galleried landing with balustrading.
“The house is much more spacious now,” he adds. “Every room is an excellent size.”
With insulation throughout the property and polished wooden flooring, the home feels cosy and comfortable. Spotlights throughout illuminate the space.
But the sleek décor, with a sophisticated white colour scheme, also adds a touch of the contemporary to the interior. Soft furnishings provide splashes of colour here and there.
“I wanted to keep everything simple inside,” he points out

HIGH SPECIFICATION
The kitchen and breakfast room really is the jewel in the crown of the renovation, with an additional utility room situated next door. White gloss units echo the modern look from the rest of the house and are finished with elegant granite work surfaces.
The space would be excellent for any cooking enthusiast as there is a selection of high quality appliances and features, including a warming drawer and wine cooler. French windows lead out to the balcony which wraps around the house. “It all works really well together,” Ray explains.

REST AND RELAXATION
The main reception room with a feature fireplace and an abundance of windows that bring the natural light flooding in, is perfect for rest and relaxation, as is the other family room.
The home on Park Lane provides an excellent choice of versatile living spaces, meaning there’s room for busy family life. Downstairs, even more space is situated at the level of the gardens, currently comprising one generous storeroom or workshop and another larger space which could be used as a gym or even home office.
“It makes a great family home, it’s too big for one person alone,” Ray notes.
Upstairs, the master suite comes with fitted wardrobes, a vanity area and en suite bathroom, as well as picturesque views. Three further bedrooms, each of an excellent size and one with another en suite, as well as a family bathroom, would be perfect for a large family or even an owner who enjoys hosting guests.

HAPPY HOUR
The house is perfectly suited to entertaining. A spacious conservatory, leading on from the family room, has been turned into a games room, complete with views across the mountains, lots of seating and its own bar, there is even room for a pool table, “The bar can hold 30 people,” he says.
With its own separate entrance, it’s ideal for hosting friends and family.
“All of my staff come round for the Christmas party,” he adds. “And in the summer my granddaughter has her birthday party here.”

SIMPLE SERENITY
Taff’s Well, a semi-rural area north of Cardiff, is a scenic location, the spectacular Garth Mountain can be seen from the house.
“The location is lovely, beautiful, you can walk around the parks here,” describes Ray.
Despite this idyllic setting, the home is also superbly accessible: the centre of Cardiff can be reached just a 15-minute drive and Taff’s Well also has its own train station.
Newport, Bristol and London can also be accessed with excellent road links, and Cardiff also provides high speed train services to other parts of the country.
“I really like living in the area. There’s a great local rugby club nearby, where I’m the chairman of a couple of teams,” he adds. “I’m going to miss all of it, the location and every part of the house, when I leave.”

Setting The Scene

Outside, wrought iron gates with electronic controls open on to a private driveway, large enough to provide space for several cars.
A picture perfect balcony wraps around the exterior of the home, providing an area for al fresco dining, or for guests to enjoy canapés and drinks as they take in the wonderful views. Steps from this area lead down to a terrace with further room for seating. The garden is principally laid to lawn, making it an excellent space for entertaining or for children to play outside. With conifer trees planted, as well as boundary walls and railings at the front, the property boasts privacy and tranquillity.
