Our Time Here - Youd be forgiven for thinking that Rats Castle is a new property as we have sympathetically brought it into the 21st century. Nothing needs doing to this unique 17th century house. Unlike traditional expectations of a cottage, there is nothing small or dark about this property, which is sun-drenched all day, drawing in the light and providing an airy and spacious feel.

We weren't actually looking to move when we first saw this property. I kept seeing Rats Castle advertised in an agent's window in Whitstable. We decided to have a look at this unique property, which was unlike anything else we'd ever seen. We felt that she hadn't reached her full potential and we have lovingly restored the house with all modern comforts such as underfloor heating and luxurious kitchen and bathrooms, which work in perfect harmony with the charming historical features. It has the most wonderful tranquil feeling and stunning countryside views.

Rats Castle is just the most wonderful place to live and the atmosphere is filled with 400 years of history, yet generous with space; we have lived in 4 bedroom houses that are tiny in comparison! The lounge is over 30ft long and we have transformed the old garage into a beautiful second sitting room for our grandchildren to play in. We have used this space as an office and it can also be used as a separate annexe as it has use of the kitchen along with a bedroom and en-suite. We often have up to ten people staying here very comfortably, and we have seated 14 for dinner on many occasions.

The location is absolutely idyllic, we have commuted to London in the past, just a 57 minute journey to St. Pancras on the HS1 from Canterbury, which in turn is just 12 minutes from the house. The coast is just 15 minutes away too. There is also a wonderful village community here.

We feel so privileged to have been a guardian of the house and have been a part of it's 400 year history. It is now time for us to start a new chapter and to pass the house on to its new owner, who will love it just as much as we have.
