Nearby Glentress Forest is recognised as one of Europe's top mountain biking centres. With its world renowned and consistent prolificacy as a salmon river, the River Tweed attracts anglers from around the globe. In addition to the Championship course at Cardrona, there are courses locally at Glencorse, Rosewell, West Linton, Peebles, and Innerleithen. The famous links courses of East Lothian (including the Open Championship venue at Muirfield) as well as the highly regarded Roxburghe course at Kelso can be reached easily. A feature of the Borders is the 'common ridings', where towns have an annual gatherings on horseback for a cross-country ride.
