Current owners Peter and Carol were looking for a property near a town with an ecclesiastical connection by name, so Fold Cottage in Church Stretton was just perfect. Their seventh renovation, the couple saw the potential in the cottage and set about restoring it to its former glory and more. A new roof ensued, as well as replacement vertical timbers and base wall plates, and an extension was added including kitchen, study, utility room, master bedroom and en suite bathroom. Living on the building site for 18 months, Peter and Carol quite literally built the cottage up around them, with the help of the builder who restored English Heritage site Stokesay Castle. Attention to detail and the historic nature of the building are key in this property, from the inglenook fireplace and original bread oven in the dining room to the old wattle panels in the hallway. I run a business, Carol's Cakes, so I do all of my baking in the kitchen and have it organised perfectly" adds Carol.
