HISTORY Originally built in the 17th Century on the site of a Deer park, the Hall was acquired by Henry Beaumont, later known as Viscount Beaumont of Swords.
In 1804 the Hall was re-built by Sir George Howland Beaumont, a celebrated patron of the arts who was credited with donating many works of art from his private collection to help found the National Gallery. It is widely believed that during this period many literary greats stayed at the Hall as guests of Sir George. In 1806, whilst renting the Estate farm, William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy are credited with designing the widely known Winter Garden. In 1819, during a visit to the Hall, it is believed that Sir Walter Scott penned his famous novel "Ivanhoe" a name which remains synonymous to the area to this day. The Hall remained in the Beaumont family for many years, in 1948 it was purchased by the National Coal Board and used as a regional head office until their demise in the early 1990's. Following a brief tenure by Fisons Pharmaceutical the property was acquired in 1997 by J.S Bloors, and converted into twelve luxury apartments.
