The house has been modernised and brought up to date by Jane and Roger since moving in fourteen years ago, with the bathrooms refitted and the kitchen reconfigured to suit the needs of the family. It is a space where everybody accumulates and hangs out says Jane. There is a large island with breakfast bar with seating and an AGA where the cats and dogs snuggle up in wintertime. Extremely spacious, it is the perfect kitchen for cooking Christmas dinner. The AGA keeps the house really cosy in autumn and winter, but in summer we switch the AGA off and I use an induction hob and double conventional oven at the other end of the room. We say it is my summer kitchen! So the room is perfect all year round.

I also love the living room continues Jane. There is a big open log fire for winter warmth, and lovely light coming in through the French doors, which we keep open in summer. This sense of light and space continues throughout the house, with large rooms and high ceilings. There is a nice flow to the house says Jane. The mixture of old and new is really special, and parts which have been added over the years segue seamlessly into what was there before.

The quarter acre garden is particularly precious to Jane and Roger, and they often sit out in the evenings and enjoy the beautiful light at the back of the house. The garden wraps around the house itself. It is a real English country garden says Jane. It is a lovely sunny garden, but private and not overlooked. It is very quiet, a real sanctuary, both for us and for the wildlife and birds! We have apple trees which once had a tree house and swing which the children loved when they were small.

The location of the property has served the children well says Jane. They were educated partly in the state sector in both Cambridge and St Neots, and partly in the private sector in Cambridge. A school bus stops immediately outside the house, which is ideal as it picks the children up and drops them off again so they can get to school independently. As for me, I feel that we are far enough from the bustle of Cambridge, whilst still being in easy reach and also close to St Neots, St Ives or Huntingdon, so the house is perfectly situated. There is a GP surgery with pharmacy, convenience store, delicatessen, tennis club, and an excellent Indian restaurant at nearby Papworth. The railway station in St Neots also provides easy and rapid access to London. The village itself is small and friendly, offering various community activities including coffee mornings, quiz nights, womens groups, and numerous family activities, while St Neots, St Ives and Huntingdon have all necessary amenities.

A summerhouse built by the couple last year provides the perfect space from which to admire the house itself. The best view of the house is from the back says Jane. You can look up over the lawns and flower beds and apple trees to the back patio, and back to the French windows of both the dining room and sitting room. It is a lovely place to sit, extremely tranquil and often with beautiful sunshine.

We have a summer garden party every year at the cottage. Friends and family come from all over and its always a very pleasant occasion. We open up the French doors in the dining room, kitchen and the sitting room so that everyone can move freely through the house and garden. We have a bar area on the island in the kitchen and lay out a buffet on the long table in the dining room. The youngsters can amuse themselves in the games room, whilst the adults enjoy the garden. The property lends itself really well to parties, and its lovely to see all of our guests enjoying themselves.

We will miss the space says Jane, as well as the garden and of course the neighbours, who have become good friends over the years. We look after their house and pets when they are away, and they do the same for us. Theres a real sense of community. But we will take many happy memories with us when we leave.
