The Terrace, which Riverside is part of, was originally built as a hotel, circa 1790, by Kelita Kitchen, papermaker of Thorp Arch, for visitors coming to take the waters of the nearby Spa baths.   By 1798 it was a boys school and eventually in 1824 converted into private dwellings.
