The Story

NATURAL WORLD
Set on one of the largest plots on the development, and with its own mature gardens, the house near Llanharan, takes in vistas across the lake.
“After moving here we extended the outside area to give ourselves a large expanse of decking and to make the most of the views,” the owners say “We have kept everywhere else as a natural woodland garden, which is beautiful and attracts lots of birds.”
The decking is wonderful for long summer lunches, barbecues and just simply relaxing out in the fresh air. From here they can also watch the wildlife out on the water: “We see everything from geese to cormorants,” they add.

A WINTER WELCOME
In the summer, life at Meiros Valley Lake is very much about outside living. In the winter, it is nice to settle down inside, next to a roaring wood-burning stove.
“We have the wood-burner in the main drawing room area but it actually warms the whole house!”
Two sets of double doors from this room open out on to the decking, which wraps around to the side of the house. The drawing room has a vaulted ceiling and is open-plan to the kitchen and has space for dining furniture, as well as comfortable seating. This works very well for entertaining and is ideal for easy daily living.
“We like having a feeling of space about us, especially when other people are here – it means you don’t feel shut off from your guests.”

COMFORTABLE HOME
It has been a very comfortable home for welcoming friends and family into, they continue.
“We have celebrated lots of occasions here: we have had 30th birthday parties for two of our daughters, a baby shower and lots of family Christmases.”
There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms in the house: one of the bathrooms is en suite to the master bedroom. The arrangement of the rooms offers great flexibility, with the possibility of two of the bedrooms being used as additional living or study space: One of the bedrooms is currently arranged as a study.
The whole house has a warm and welcoming air, with the exposed pine adding ambience and bringing character to the rooms. Elsewhere décor has been kept neutral to enhance the natural light that streams into every space.

PERFECT BALANCE
The Llanharan setting of the property has given the owners a balance between tranquillity and convenience.
“We are just 10 minutes’ drive from Talbot Green retail park, which has lots of large stores, but can also get into Cowbridge, which has some lovely shops and restaurants, quite easily,” they say. “We are just 25 minutes from the beach at Porthcawl but we also like to go to Newton Beach or Ogmore.”

LOVELY PLACE
When they are not out and about or relaxing at home, perhaps having a barbecue, they might go to the cinema in Bridgend. If they want to travel further afield they can join the M4 at junction 34 or 35, and head off towards Cardiff, Swansea or Newport, or can make the 45-minute journey to Cardiff Airport.
“This has been such a lovely place to live,” she says. “And we have loved being in a home like this. It has been fun to live in a home like this.”

Setting The Scene

The house on Oakmead Road sits in a large, mature plot, with lots of leafy, wooded areas. From the drawing room there are doors opening out on to the spacious deck, which has been designed for outside living and takes in unobstructed views of the lake.
There are communal grounds to enjoy on the development. They are beautifully maintained.
