The Story

SPACIOUS LIVING
The house itself dates back to the 1960s and was built in the grounds of a former Victorian country house. When the couple bought it they knew they wanted to make substantial changes.
"It was a fairly small dormer bungalow back then and we came in and carried out a lot of work: we extended it sideways to create a new bedroom, en suite bathroom and dressing room, as well as a utility room, study and ground floor cloakroom," she says. "We also added a double garage."

STYLISH INTERIORS
The house, which now has five bedrooms and three bathrooms, was updated and redecorated throughout by the couple, who had significant experience in building and renovation.
"We wanted it to have a minimal feel - to be very light and open," Christine says. "I like clean lines and an airy, modern feel. We tiled the floors, replaced the doors and made sure everything was of a very high quality."
She adds: "When you can take it all right back and almost start again from the beginning you can also ensure everything flows smoothly and works very well as a family home, with everything exactly as you want it to be."

A WARM WELCOME
The open-plan living has been ideal, with the kitchen area giving on to the dining space, which is superb for family life and for entertaining.
"The drawing room has also worked well when there have been lots of people here, especially at Christmas, because there is room for everyone to gather together," she says. "In the summer we often have barbecues, with people out in the sunny garden as well as in the house. There is so much space outside - we have played cricket out there and even had tennis and badminton courts up."

FLEXIBLE HOME
The layout of the house has brought great flexibility, she explains, making it comfortable to welcome lots of people and to adapt rooms.
"With between five and seven bedrooms, depending on how you arrange the accommodation here, it is very easy to have lots of people to stay here: there are rooms downstairs that can become bedrooms if required," she points out. "The office is extremely large as it was the drawing room for the previous owners - we have a pool table in there now."
She adds: "The layout works very well for a family as you can have teenagers at one end and adults at the other!"

HAPPY TIMES
Christine and David have lived in the Edwalton and West Bridgford area for 32 years now and plan to stay close by when they move. They believe it offers the best of all worlds and is an outstanding place to bring up a family.
"It has really evolved since we have lived here - and has just got better and better," says Christine. "There are nice restaurants, cafés and good shops close by and we have enjoyed taking our children and grandchildren to the parks in the area."
There is easy access out into the countryside for those who enjoy walking or riding. The nearby Vale of Belvoir is known for its footpaths and its country pubs.
"It is going to be hard to find a spot that is as peaceful as this, however," she admits. "And this is such a nice home too. It is the longest we have ever spent in a house and is somewhere we have been very happy."
