Our Time Here - We were first drawn to the location, being very close to St. Stephens Junior School and just a 10-15 minute walk into both Canterbury West railway station and the centre of town; a pleasant walk through some of the Canterbury alleyways. The other attractive thing about the house is its American style appearance. We call it 'The White House' as it is clad with white fascia boarding with a very large porch at the front, which you can sit in and watch the world go by.
The living room is dual-aspect making it a very light and spacious, enjoyable place to relax in and is especially good for get-togethers. We also have a very large kitchen that is attached to a garden room, which lends itself particularly well to entertaining.
We really like the convenience for town and the independence that this factor gave our children. It is incredibly quiet so even though we're close to everything you don't hear any noise, and it's very peaceful to sit in the garden. We have a dog so it's an easy to walk to the park and is only a 5-10 minutes into the countryside. You can actually walk from the house all the way to Whitstable through the public bridleways and footpaths, and that has been something that we've thoroughly enjoyed.
The rear garden is an Italian style courtyard which is a lovely spot to relax in. There is a large green space right in front of the house which our kids made full use of, playing with the other children in the neighbourhood which has been a real positive for us. It is an excellent, safe community with a real mixture of lovely people including families, professionals and retirees.
Now that our children are grown up the way that we need to use our house has changed. We need less space for the children and more space for the dog! We are looking to downsize in terms of accommodation but to somewhere that has a bit more land.
We will miss the close proximity to Canterbury and the convenience to Kingsmead Gym, which is only a short walk away and has a swimming pool. We're likely to stay in the North Canterbury area, as we like the fact that it's very easy to get on to the A2 and M2, as well as a very short drive to the coast at Tankerton and Whitstable. This house has been a great family home where we have raised our four children, and we have been very happy here.
