The Story

On most days John and Sandy Bamberg will stroll down to the Jubilee River and walk along its banks for a while. From their impressive Georgian-style, five-bedroom home they are also just a short distance from the River Thames and from some fabulous country walks.
"We loved the location," John recalls. "At the time I needed access to the West End and Heathrow Airport, and this place was ideal. It was a very special location because it was also so rural and it was within easy reach of the River Thames. Now, of course, we are lucky enough to have the Jubilee River just a couple of hundred yards over the fields opposite us too."

BY DESIGN
Lissiam Lodge was built on the site of the old Springfield Estate.
"We bought our plot from the developer in April 1975 and we were able to move in by September," he says. "We had some input in the finish of the house - areas, such as the décor, the kitchen and the bathrooms. We were also able to choose fireplaces and decide were certain walls were."
He adds: "So, for example, we were able to make the decision to have the drawing room and dining room as contiguous."

FAMILY HOM
Living space in the property is generous and well laid-out. The house is entered via a central reception hall, which gives on to the family room and kitchen breakfast room to the right. Beyond the kitchen, the utility room can be found behind the garage.
There is a cloakroom off the hall and them to the left the house opens up into its splendid drawing and dining room. Adjoining the drawing room is the large conservatory, which was added by the Bambergs. Upstairs there are five bedrooms and three bathrooms. There is an enormous master suite.
"We were a family of five when we came here and this house was perfect for us in terms of its layout and its space," he adds.

GREEN VIEWS
Rooms in the house are bright, airy and welcoming. There are good areas for entertaining, spending time with family and relaxing.
"I enjoy sitting in the conservatory in autumn or spring, looking out at the garden - it is so quiet here," John says. "In summer I like to be outside as much as possible. I also love the master bedroom, which runs the whole depth of the house, and is divided into the large bedroom and then a dressing area with banks of wardrobes. There are windows to the front and back, which both look out on to greenery."
As the children have now left home, two of the bedrooms are used as offices.
"It is nice to be able to have one each," he points out.

SOCIAL SCENE
Every Christmas John and Sandy hold a Christmas party: last year some 22 guests attended. There have also been numerous family celebrations and dinner parties at Lissiam Lodge over the past 40 or so years.
"And because we have so much room here it has always been easy for people to stay over too," John says.
The couple have enjoyed socialising in the village and being able to travel easily to visit friends and family: "My wife and I are keen bridge players and there is a centre in Burnham Beeches that we like to go to. I also like to play golf at the club there," he adds.

EASY TRAVEL
Reaching good schools and supermarkets is also easy from the property. There are two hypermarkets nearby and it is quick to get into Maidenhead, where there is a wide selection of high street stores.
"You can, of course, get into central London very easily too. People commute from Taplow, as it is such a short journey, and it is great to be so handy for Heathrow Airport. We like to travel as much as we can so it is perfect for us."
When John and Sandy feel like going for a walk they can either head off to somewhere like Cliveden for the afternoon or they just stroll out across the fields to one of the rivers.
"Although we hope to stay in the area, we will miss our immediate surroundings," he admits. "We have a lot of happy memories of our time here. It has been a wonderful home."

Setting the Scene

Lissiam Lodge enjoys generous grounds, which John and Sandy like to leave as natural as possible. To the front there is a large driveway, adjacent to an area of lawn. The double garage is integral to the house.
At the back, there is an expanse of lawn, which is bordered by leafy, mature trees and shrubs. There is a generous sun terrace, with space for outside dining.
