"Stonehouse" is a truly one-off characterful home. So many lovely features, open fires, exposed timber, and a really large plot. A rare find.

Weston on the Green is a small and pretty village just to the North of Oxford. A drive past gives little hint to its ancient origins which include the local church dating in part to the 12th century. Today it is well known by locals for some lovely architecture, two excellent pub/ restaurants, The Milk Shed, a highly acclaimed cafe/ restaurant, a great local store and the Weston Manor Hotel which is a business venue as well as offering "murder mystery" and other theme nights. The access to all points of the compass is exceptional via both road and rail, with Oxford, London, Birmingham and Milton Keynes all easily accessible. Schooling is also amply catered for with several primary and secondary schools locally which enjoy high Ofsted ratings. Fibre broadband is available in the village.

Stonehouse is a very interesting and intriguing house. Built post-war, it has more in common with Tudor/ Elizabethan era architecture than anything more modern. Features such as the generous and comprehensive use of aged timber, stone fireplace surround, window seat on the landing all make it a real one-off. But as much as anything the plot is a real surprise. Set in approx 1/3 acre and set well back from the road there is fantastic outdoor space here, ideal for those simply wanting a lawn but equally likely to accommodate extension/ garaging/ outbuildings subject to planning permission.

The front door opens into a wide hall with a timber floor, and the timber stairs rise away ahead of you. Here the character is already evident, with exposed stone to the left wall, and there are lovely beams overhead - a theme throughout the whole house. On the left the first of four receptions is bright and very attractive. Dual aspect, it is also a generous size at over twenty feet long and it looks out across the front lawn. To the right of the hall the dining room is also dual aspect, with a bay window, this is a great room and very practical. The door to the rear leads into a further hallway off which are a modern shower room, which is well specified, and beyond it a kitchen. This is a great space, complete with a central island ranged round which are units on three sizes including a high quality range cooker, and to the left double doors open onto the terrace. Also facing the rear garden is the sitting room. Here there is a stone fireplace with a wood burning stove and also a door out to the garden allowing easy access to it and the terrace. Underfoot the flooring is a delightful herringbone parquet. The last of the four receptions is a good sized study to the rear of the hall.

Upstairs the first impression is one of real space. The landing is vast, and the wall and ceiling timbers give it the ambience of a much older house. The main suite is a good double, neutral decorated and with an ample range of wardrobes. There is also an en-suite to the side which is very modern with tiling to all walls and a thermostatic shower. Bedroom two has been very cleverly fitted to provide masses of storage across two walls. The smallest bedroom is still a double and this too provides built in storage of various types, and also includes a seat in the bay window. Serving all three the bathroom is rather splendid, including a roll top bath. Unusually there are large windows to the rear and also timbers, meaning even here there is some character!

Outside the space is simply laid out and generous. Off the road a gateway leads up to a large gravel driveway, ample for perhaps six cars. Behind this is a shed, we imagine here is where many would put a garage. On the right the hedge masks the drive from the front garden, which is a lovely space entirely secluded from the road by a large conifer hedge to the front. There are several mature trees in the lawn centre, and behind it the terrace and front door are reached via a gravel path from the drive. This terrace becomes a path that wraps around the side of the house and leads to the rear. Here a paved terrace is a wonderful sun trap
