THE STORY

There is nothing quite like returning to Langhams at the end of a busy day. Current owner Sarah says she and her family have enjoyed the exceptional tranquillity and complete privacy offered by the attractive Felsted property.
"It is set back from the quiet lane and surrounded by fields - it really is wonderful," she says. "We can see the back of Felsted School, which is very nice, and we sometimes hear the lovely sound of the church bells ringing - but otherwise it seems like you are right off the beaten track. It is so peaceful and beautiful that you could be in the middle of nowhere."
The house does enjoy good access to road links, however, and is within easy travelling distance of Chelmsford: "We love the fact it is such a quiet and safe place to be yet it is also within reach of everything we need," she adds.

IDEAL LAYOUT

Sarah and her husband bought the house in 2007. It was designed to offer well-proportioned living space and plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms.
The property is entered via a central, very light entrance hall. The hall leads into the large drawing room, the family room, which has French windows opening on to the garden, and the kitchen dining room, which is very much the hub of the home. This open plan area has two sets of doors on to the garden and also opens into a television room. There is also a cloakroom and utility room on the ground floor.
"The arrangement is ideal," she says. "All the rooms are good sizes and the children have been able to have their own space to play or watch television."

LUXURIOUS LIVING

Over the years Langhams has been impeccably maintained and beautifully decorated. It has a modern style, which sits comfortably within its bright, airy rooms.
"The whole house feels very light and spacious," says Sarah. "Rooms have mostly been painted in Farrow & Ball. The master bedroom has a beautiful Zoffany wallpaper."
The master suite also includes a sumptuous en suite shower room and dressing area. The guest room also has an en suite bathroom and three other generous bedrooms have access to the spacious family bathroom, with its beautiful free-standing bath.

ENTERTAINING SPACE

The three reception rooms are especially light and in summer doors and windows are left open so everyone can enjoy the garden as much as the house.
"Having three reception rooms has been ideal - there is always somewhere for people to spread out into. It has also been great for entertaining: we have had several parties here, including my husband's 50th birthday."
She adds: "We have a music system into both the kitchen dining room and the drawing room which is excellent for parties."

OUTDOOR LIFE

Entertaining often takes place outside where there is a series of fabulous places to dine, relax and take in the scenery: "We have a lovely wrap-around deck and pergola to one side of the house and then a terrace on the other."
The family have enjoyed outdoor living at their country home. A couple of years ago they purchased an extra half-acre of land to give themselves even more space to enjoy.
"We do keep chickens and have a couple of vegetable patches so you can certainly enjoy country living here," says Sarah.
Also in the grounds is a room which could be a studio, gym or home office.
"This could be perfect for someone looking to work from home," she says.

FABULOUS PLACE

At weekends they like to take the children to the nearby community play park, the Great Notley Discovery Centre and Park or even on a walk along the Flitch Way, which passes through Felsted. This is a former railway line that passes through 15 miles of rural Essex. It is a favourite choice for joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, horse-riders and families.
"It is nice to have all of this close by while also being well-positioned for reaching the M11, Stansted Airport and Chelmsford Station, with its fast trains into London Liverpool Street," she observes. "This has been a lovely place to live and Langhams has been a fabulous family home."

SETTING THE SCENE

Beautiful Langhams is set in well-kept grounds of 0.75 of an acre in size. It is surrounded by open fields and enjoys great privacy.
There is a gated entrance to the property, which opens on to a private driveway. Outside the garden includes areas of lawn, as well as a south-facing sun terrace and decked areas, a pretty pergola and lots of space for outside entertaining. There is an oak-framed, garage with attached studio/office.

WHATS NEARBY

Langhams stands in a picturesque country lane in a semi-rural position within easy walking distance of the centre of Felsted just 6 miles from the historic town of Dunmow. This is arguably one of the most idyllic locations in Felsted, a village renowned for the Public Felsted School. Felsted will always be popular for its school, but also retains an excellent range of facilities including Felsted School, The Swan Inn, The Chequers Pub, The Olde Boote Chinese Restaurant, Razza Indian Restaurant, Village shop, Hairdressers, gym, Beauty Salon & ladies boutique.

WITHIN EASY REACH

Both Chelmsford and Bishop's Stortford are within easy driving distance which provide excellent shopping and access to main line railway stations, with Chelmsford offering faster direct services into London's Liverpool Street. The new A120 dual carriage way is just to the north of Felsted proving fast access to Stansted airport and the M11.

DIRECTIONS

From the M11, take the A120 east bound and upon which at Great Dunmow proceed onto the B1256 towards Felsted.
