The Story

GREEN VIEWS
Rock View has been home to Jean and her husband Barry for nearly 36 years.
“My husband and I are both locals and had been living out in the country on a farm,” she recalls. “When the three children started becoming teenagers, however, we felt it would be good to move into town so they could get to their schools and clubs easily, and socialise with their friends.”
She continues: “This place was ideal: it overlooked the common and so gave us green views, which made it feel like a mini-country house, yet it was also so convenient for everyone.”

FAMILY HOME
Over the years the couple have improved their home significantly, carrying out rewiring, replumbing and replastering.
“We also updated the bathrooms and the kitchen, and have decorated and redecorated, using very light paints to keep rooms feeling bright.”
The substantial house, which has high ceilings and a feeling of airiness, has made a wonderful family home, she continues. There are three bedrooms and two bathrooms on the first floor of the house, while two more bedrooms are situated above.
“All the bedrooms are quite pleasant – the master bedroom has a lovely en suite bathroom and views out over the common.”

CELEBRATING AT HOME
With five bedrooms, there is always space for the couple’s children and grandchildren to stay.
“We have a big dining room where we can all sit down to meals and a terrace where we like to eat together when the weather is fine,” says Jean.
Rock View has seen lots of wonderful occasions over the years, with family and friends gathering in the house and garden.
“Our eldest daughter’s wedding was held here, and my husband and I had our golden wedding anniversary; there have also been lots of other anniversaries and birthdays, often with up to 60 guests.”

FURTHER SCOPE
The garden room is a lovely feature of the house, allowing the couple to overlook their outside space even when the weather is poor.
“My husband and I also spend a lot of time in the kitchen, which is a large and practical space with Shaker style units and can fit a dining table for six in there,” Jean says.
There is also a large cellar in the house: “We have used this for storage but someone else could do something much more exciting, such as make it into a games or cinema room perhaps!”

ATTRACTIVE TOWN
Historic Tunbridge Wells is close to the border of East Sussex, on the northern edge of the High Weald. It is known for its charming buildings, independent shops and plethora of restaurants.
“Everything we need here is right on the doorstep – there are good schools and we have all the lovely small shops in the town and then the high street names in Victoria Place. If we want to go out to eat we have an amazing choice of restaurants, including one with a Michelin star.”
There is spectacular countryside all around Tunbridge Wells and it is easy to get down to the coast.
“We have loved living here,” Jean admits. “The town is superb and the house still has a period feel but has also been upgraded and maintained to modern standards. In my opinion it is one of the prettiest houses in Tunbridge Wells – but then I guess I am biased.”

Setting The Scene

Rock View sits in very pretty, low maintenance gardens. There are three separate outdoor areas, including a walled garden to the front. There is a courtyard garden to the rear and then a private terrace area to the side, adjacent to which is off-street parking. The house overlooks a common.

There are numerous well respected Local schools in the area which include The Mead Preparatory, Rosehill Preparatory and numerous Grammar schools for boys and girls. London Bridge can also be accessed via Tunbridge Wells railway station which is approximately half a mile away and takes around 42 minutes.
