THE STORY

From the end of the garden they enjoy vistas over towards the striking Chappel Viaduct - and when they fancy a stroll they like to take the Millennium Walk where they sometimes catch sight of a steam train crossing the bridge.
The current owners of Bassetts were taken with the position of the attractive property, as well as its character and space.
"We loved the fact the house looks like a cottage yet when you come inside all the rooms are light and spacious," one of them explains. "It is set back from the road, behind a small triangular green, and its secluded position, wrap-around garden and five-bar gate make it feel very private."
The house sits comfortably within its plot, she continues, and benefits from a driveway with space for multiple cars, which is ideal when entertaining or hosting family gatherings.

BEAUTIFUL KITCHEN

Bassetts was their first home together and after moving in they took time and care in renovating and upgrading it.

NEUTRAL TONES

Most visitors are surprised to discover the house was built in 1988, she explains.
"It has a chocolate box cottage look to it and people assume it is much older than it is. We have decorated it inside in a neutral and traditional style in-keeping with its external appearance," she says.

SEASONAL PLEASURES

There are many things they have enjoyed about living at Bassetts, she admits.
"The semi-rural, secluded position makes the house feel like a real escape when you come home at the end of the day. The summer is lovely, especially sitting at the top of the garden and having family barbecues, but Christmas is certainly a time which stands out - we love having the real fire going during the winter as it gives the drawing room such a cosy feel."

FAMILY HOME

The couple spend much of their time in the kitchen: this was designed with entertaining in mind and has a central island, which is ideal for socialising while preparing meals.
"We feel that every room is well-proportioned and the layout of the house works very well with the kitchen at the hub."
In addition, she adds: "There is a local park just a five-minute walk away, and this is next to the primary school, in a lovely secluded positon next to the viaduct and surrounded by trees."

COUNTRY WALKS

Indeed, the location of Bassetts has been everything they hoped it would be.
"My partner commutes to London every day and for him it has been ideal. Marks Tey train station is a five-minute drive away and has regular direct trains to London Liverpool Street."
Living in Chappel is an ideal family location, once you step out of the front gate there are beautiful country walks in every direction and plenty of other activities to enjoy.
"Our favourite walk is the Millennium Walk, which is fantastic for dog walking," she says. "There is a village shophere, together with a Post Office, primary school, pub, church, village hall and train station all within walking distance of Bassetts, and the supermarket is five to 10-minute drive down the road."
"We have very much enjoyed living here and transforming our house into the home it is today," she adds. "We will miss it's warm, welcoming feel and tucked away position."

SETTING THE SCENE

Bassetts is set back from the road with its own private drive. There are established gardens, with lawns and areas to sit out and enjoy the sunshine.

WITHIN EASY REACH

The A12 is easily accessed to the south (3 miles) and for the boating enthusiast, there are marinas on the Walton Backwaters at Titchmarsh, Shotley Point, Levington, Woolverstone and Fox's on the River Orwell outside Ipswich. There are also a number of good golf courses in the area.

WHATS NEARBY

Chappel itself is best known for its brick viaduct, which forms a striking approach to the village. The village is surrounded by undulating picturesque countryside with good walking and riding opportunities. The village shop, which is within walking distance, provides day to day needs, with more comprehensive educational, commercial and recreational facilities in Colchester, which also has a fast intercity train direct to London Liverpool Street Station (45 minutes) or from Marks Tey (3 miles).
