The Story

A WARM WELCOME
The appealing, two-bedroom house was ready to move into when she bought it. Since then, however, she has brought in a few features of her own to improve it further and make it even more welcoming.
"I have had oak floors laid and a new kitchen installed," she says. "This has cupboards in white, with wooden work surfaces, and includes a beautiful bespoke unit above the range."
Walls were kept fresh and light in colour to enhance the natural light and to allow the warmth of the natural wooden beams to really come through.
"It is decorated in quite a simple style but this does work well with the house," she adds.

BRIGHT ROOMS
The Apple Press is entered via a boot room with cupboards, which leads on through into the kitchen breakfast room. This bright area has windows on two sides, as well as French windows through into the conservatory, and a door into the lounge. There is ample space for a dining table and chairs in the kitchen.
"I love the conservatory too as it has underfloor heating and a gable end, which looks out over the garden and the trees; it is lovely to sit in there with the sun shining in, just enjoying the view."

OUTDOOR LIVING
The conservatory also opens in to the drawing room, which is comfortable and has a modern-style wood-burning stove.
"This has been a good house for entertaining," Mary admits. "There is space for people to spread out inside and then in the summer we have had some lovely occasions with our neighbours and friends: everyone sits round the fire pit relaxing and chatting."
The exquisite walled garden has been a fabulous extension of the house, with room for outside dining, as well as relaxation.

GREEN VIEWS
One of the bedrooms is situated on the ground floor and has an en suite shower room. Stairs from the lounge lead up to the master bedroom, which has its own sumptuous bathroom and dressing area.
"I do love this part of the house - the bedroom is a nice size and has a fabulous outlook over the golf course. The bathroom has a beautiful, roll-top bath, where you can luxuriate and take in the views!"
There are just 21 homes at Stragglethorpe Manor, she explains, and so it offers something of a village lifestyle. There are communal gardens and, of course, the great attraction to life at Stragglethorpe Manor is, the proximity to the 36-hole golf course.

A TRANQUIL PLACE
Mary will miss the community and the setting as much as the Apple Press itself she admits.
"It is also such a convenient place to live," she explains. "We are just five minutes from West Bridgford, with all its bars, restaurants and supermarkets - and it is very, very quick to get into the city from here."
It is easy to drive out into the open countryside to go walking, while beauty spots slightly further away, such as the Peak District, are simple to reach by road.
"But if you want to go walking you can also head out into the country park opposite or even stroll around the golf course - they are quite happy for people who live here to do so."
And, she adds: "The Grantham Canal runs nearby and also provides a lovely walk. We will miss all this when we leave. It is such a tranquil and beautiful place to live."

Setting The Scene

It has its own sunny walled gardens, which are private and are designed for ease of management. Mostly gravelled, the garden features potted flowers and shrubs, and plenty of places for sitting out. Double gates allow for vehicle access.
