Access to the site is from the A887 via an unclassified road to Tomchrasky Farm; an agreed timber transport route and then via forest road into the wood. This road runs through the centre of the wood with various timber loading areas. Some repair is currently required to a culvert bridge over the Allt a Chrainn burn.


Tomchrasky Wood is situated above the northern bank of the river Moriston about 9 miles west of Invermoriston and 35 miles from Inverness.
The site is gently sloping with fertile and well drained upland brown earth with some areas of peat, rising from about 120m to 240m above sea level.
The growing crop was planted in 1955/56 and is mainly Scots Pine which makes up about 49.9% of the woodland crop with 35% Lodgepole Pine, 11% Japanese Larch and a small area of Sitka Spruce. Yield classes for the spruce are about 10 -12 and for the mixed conifers between 8 and 10 and there are some minor pockets of wind blow through the forest area. Having been thinned in 2003 the area is all suitable for mechanised harvesting and is now ready for felling subject to an approved restructuring plan.
