The Story

Set on one of the most desirable roads in the area, the house on Burnham Lane has been a fantastic family home, according to the current owner. The spacious, five-bedroom home has been the setting for all sorts of fun and special occasions for more than 30 years now.
"There have been barbecues in the summer and lots of gatherings of family and friends," she says. "We have enjoyed sitting out on the terrace in the sunshine while the children have played football on the lawn."
The property has been exceptionally versatile, she says, adapting as the requirements of the family have changed. There is a generous drive, with space for up to five cars, and an attractive garden.
"There has always been plenty of room here for everyone to spread out and enjoy their own space, as well as to spend time together," she adds.

SPECTACULAR KITCHEN
Dating back to the 1940s, the property offers well-proportioned, substantial accommodation.
"We have extended it significantly and made some major changes to it over the years," she says. "We built out over the top of the garage to create another room, which can be an extra family space or bedroom. We have also extended out to the back of the house to create a much larger kitchen dining room, which now opens on to the garden. This is now also open-plan to the family room."
This bright, modern area features a Moben kitchen, with granite work surfaces, a peninsular, with a breakfast bar, and a range-style cooker. There is a tiled floor and underfloor heating.
"This is a great room for family living and for entertaining, especially in the summer, when we can open up the doors on to the garden."

GREAT SCOPE
Also on the ground floor, and situated at the front of the house, is the more formal drawing room, offering a quiet space away from the main heart of the home. Upstairs there are five bedrooms, two of which are doubles, together with the main family bathroom.
"Subject to the relevant planning permissions, there is still scope to extend this house further," she points out. "You could potentially take the house out even more and one of our neighbours has even built a detached annexe at the end of the garden."

EXCELLENT POSITION
The convenience of the location has also suited the family well over the years. It takes just a few minutes to reach the station at Burnham and from there commuters can catch trains into London.
"This area will be even better connected when the Crossrail arrives and of course we are well-positioned for reaching Heathrow Airport."
Maidenhead, Beaconsfield, Gerrards Cross, Marlow and Windsor are all within easy reach and offer good shopping and leisure facilities. There are golf courses in the area, as well as numerous opportunities to take part in other sports and to enjoy horse-riding.
"We are close to forest, parks and lovely areas to walk, including Burnham Beeches," she adds.

AT THE BEECHES
Nearby Burnham Beeches is a great place to explore with children or dogs. It stretches across 540 acres and is protected, ancient woodland.
The beautiful setting been used as a location for many television programmes and films, including The Crying Game, Goldfinger, The Princess Bride and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Filming is restricted to no more than 20 days a year, and revenue from filming goes directly back into managing the woodland.
"This is a lovely place to walk and to take children to," she says.

DAYS IN THE PARK
Black Park has been another favourite place for the family to visit. Covering 530 acres of woodland, heath land and grassland, some areas here are designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
The park includes an avenue of mature pine trees, an orienteering course, a lake dug in the 18th century as a reservoir for a local family and a lakeside café. There is also a Go-Ape activity centre in the park, with climbing rigging and zip lines between the trees.
The National Trust gardens at Cliveden are also popular with residents of Burnham. Here there are some 376 acres of magnificent Grade I listed formal gardens and woodlands. The gardens feature a celebrated parterre, season-long floral displays, distinctive topiary and a collection of exceptional sculptures.
"There is so much to do in this area," she says. "As well as good parks, we have some nice pubs and restaurants. This has been an excellent place to live for our family and the house has been ideal too."

Setting the Scene

The house on Burnham Lane is set back, with a front driveway with parking for several vehicles. There is also an integral garage.
The back of the house opens up on to a generous rear family garden, which is approximately 150ft in length. There are two lawned areas, together with a paved terrace, a covered terrace and a timber summerhouse. Subject to the relevant planning permissions there could be scope for the creation of an additional outbuilding.
