This former fishing and mining town became a 'limb port' of the Cinque Ports in 1278 and grew into the busiest port in England. In 1968, Middle Street was the first Conservation Area in Kent, its quaint streets and houses a reminder of its history along with many ancient buildings and monuments including, most notably, Deal and Walmer Castles . The Vendor's View - Our parents bought the property in the late 1970s, having relocated from Maidstone. We had always visited Deal for family holidays and it was their dream to retire there. This property was ideal for them.
Nearly every window has a sea view, and the higher up the three floors you go, the more magnificent the view! The front bedroom on the middle floor is a particular favourite room, being light and bright with a lovely view of the boats and the sea on a sunny day. Our mum loved to cook, so spent a lot of time in the kitchen. She was also a keen gardener, and thoroughly enjoyed tending to the large rear garden.
The house is only a (brisk) 10-minute walk to the beach, and this has been a real highlight of the houses location. When visiting with the family on our holidays, it has been wonderful to walk down to the sea on a sunny morning and have a nice dip before breakfast! There is a lovely pub right on the beach, and this was one of our favourite places to go for a drink or meal together as a family.
Kingsdown is a lovely little village with a butcher and greengrocers, a hairdressers, a paper shop and a post office, as well as 3 pubs. It is great to be able to get your essentials without needing to leave the village. That being said, Deal is just a five-minute drive away. There is also a well-respected primary school and a beautiful, active church in the village.
Its with great sadness that we have to sell the property now that our parents are no longer with us; but we hold and will cherish very happy memories of our time here with them.
