We moved to Hartington Park to be in the catchment area of a good primary school when the boys were just 6 months and three years old. They thought we had moved to a magic castle as the first weekend was the May Fair on the green right next to the house as if it had been put on specially for us! The discovery of a delightful childrens play area in the park that caters for all ages made it even more special for them. We and the boys spent many years walking to and from school through the park enjoying the changing seasons, meeting friends in the playground, learning to cycle/skateboard/rollerblade and later to climb trees and dam streams in the dingly dell next to the community orchard. We often had a barbecued brunch or picnic in the orchard area on sunny evenings or Sunday mornings, while the children and their friends played on the rope swing and climbed trees.

Our eldest son was lucky enough to be in the first year of intake for Redland Green School which was newly built almost on the doorstep. It was recently rated by OFSTED as excellent in every respect and we have been very happy with the education of both boys at the school. Being so close to the school has been a real bonus to the development of their social lives and friendships.

Being close to city centre activities, most within walking distance, otherwise bus or train from Redland Station meant that we were rarely asked for lifts here and there as the boys developed their independence and organised their own social lives. For the adults there are several good local pubs and restaurants within easy walking distance together with music venues, cinemas and shopping in the Gloucester Road and Whiteladies Road. Bristol Lawn Tennis & Squash Club is less than 200 metres from the house with Bannatyne Health Club and Clifton College Swimming Pool & Sports Centre within 15 minutes walk or less.

Hartington Park is a friendly and sociable street where we have made several good friends, with many families having lived here for more than 20 years. It is in a fantastic location sitting on the edge of the green lung of the Downs, which leads to the Avon Gorge, Leigh Woods and Ashton Court and yet it is a city centre location. So in one direction one has the feeling of being on the edge of the countryside and on the other in the middle of the city."
