Our Time Here - We were first attracted to the property's quiet position near the sea, as well as the large ornate Victorian balcony at the front. And of course the opportunity to have your own turret!
We really like the high ceilings and spacious feel and we love having the sea at the end of the road. This particular part of the North Kent coast is known for its wonderful sunsets. In the summer it doesn't get too busy as most visitors head past Westgate to nearby Margate or Broadstairs. The location meant that our two boys were able to walk to their very good primary school St Saviours, then after school head down to the beach with friends to play. The beach is sandy and the sea is shallow so it's really good for children.
I have a small sailing dinghy that we launch occasionally from the beach to potter up and down the local coast. In the winter the sea changes constantly and if you dont feel like wrapping up warm and taking the dog for a walk, you can always sit at the top of the house and look out with a warm mug of coffee.
Westgate has a village feel to it, yet has all you need locally without having to get in the car. This includes a couple of small supermarkets, a butchers, post office, some independent coffee shops, a great little micro pub and an excellent cinema.
We are also only 2 miles (or a lovely walk along the sea front) from Margate with the Turner centre the recently reopened Dreamland, as well as the many restaurants and bars in the Old Town.
We have had a lot of happy memories in the 15 years we have owned the house but probably the best where the childrens parties we had when the boys were younger as the space meant they could have all their friends over there's nothing like fifteen wildly excited children running around fuelled on cake to put a smile on your face.
