History

The house was originally constructed as a two storey single room farmstead for the Enys Estate in the early C17, added to (twice) in the C18, and then remodelled and extended when adopted as a dower house for the young widow of John Samuel Enys in 1805. It now presents as a typical Georgian country house, constructed of local granite under a tiled roof. The house, cottages and barn are all Grade II listed. The property underwent a major restoration in 1999 including new windows, wiring, plumbing and thermal insulation.


The Property

The porticoed front door on the south side of the house opens to the main staircase hall and the principal reception areas, all with fine period features of carved wooden architraves, fireplaces, shuttered windows and natural boarded floors. The farmhouse kitchen focuses on a navy blue four oven multi-hob combination gas/electric AGA at one end, with a specialist AEG gas hob and ceramic electric hotplate under an extract hood at the other. The original granite kitchen fireplace is fitted with a gas fired decorative solid fuel stove. The breakfast room adjacent to the kitchen has an inglenook fireplace fitted with a large wood-burning stove. Double doors lead to the conservatory which has a quarry tiled floor and French doors opening onto the garden. There is an internal door to the integral garage. Opposite the kitchen is the scullery with a gas fired condensing boiler, double Belfast sinks, plumbing for a washing machine and ventilation for a tumble dryer. Off the scullery is a quarry tiled bathroom and shower.
