in Somerton, first glimpses of Medwyn House are
striking with its very pretty facade constructed of
blue and white Lias stone with Hamstone labelling.
The front roof is of Cotswold stone and slate with
tiles to the remaining rooves (the thatch was removed in 1911 and replaced by slate and Roman tiles).
Justifiably Grade II* Listed of Historical and
Architectural importance, it is of little surprise that
Medwyn House is steeped in history. The property
is believed to be built on the foundations of a tenth/eleventh century Saxon Priory, it has certainly been suggested that two of Medwyn's internal walls are possibly of Saxon origin but the main body of the house dates to no later than the fourteenth century.
There are several priest holes which were constructed in the years immediately following the reformation.
