Full description

Tenure: Freehold

Chelwood Vachery was constructed around 1910 for Sir Stuart Samuel, a Banker and Liberal MP. The house was bought in 1925 by Mr. F J Nettlefold, a well-known businessman and garden enthusiast, who extended the rhododendron collection and constructed a gorge and rockery with limestone brought in especially from Cheddar to connect with a string of lakes developed along the course of the Millbrook. Mr. Nettlefold's son sold the property to British American Tobacco Company in 1955 and the entire Estate was sold in 1994 for development as a private residential Estate.

Externally the garden and grounds are a feature of the Vachery and are divided into separate ownership amongst the various properties. In order to maintain the open feel of the landscape there are covenants in place that restrict the erection of boundary fences between the different sections.

1 West Wing was built in the 80s to provide auxiliary accommodation for employees, however it now provides a most wonderful family home of 5 bedrooms, 6 reception areas and is almost 3000 sq. ft. The property has immense scope and offers fantastic accommodation. The owners themselves were interior designers and several parts of the property were changed from the original, with the front door, staircase and main kitchen being designed and built.

With every bedroom having an ensuite and with such great flexible accommodation, the scope is endless and being situated in the most beautiful location you may enjoy the stunning uninterrupted views that the property has to offer.

Unlike the other properties in the main building, the gardens owned by the property are directly to its side and enjoy a pond and various specimen trees and shrubs with over 2 acres (to be confirmed) of botanical gardens.

To fully appreciate the accommodation on offer and to take in the jaw dropping gardens a viewing is strongly recommended.
