The Story

MAKING CHANGES
The house is set back from the road and sat comfortably within its plot, the couple could see there were a few changes they wished to make.
"My husband is a builder and he knew immediately that the house had potential to be altered to suit us," she explains. "We ended up changing the original layout fairly significantly. We extended the drawing room out to the front of the house and we added an extra bedroom upstairs by building out over an existing single storey. We also took some internal walls down to open the house up inside."

SPACIOUS HOME
Today the house is entered via a porch, which leads through to the welcoming hallway. This in turn gives on to the generous drawing room, which has windows to two sides, including a bay. There is a fireplace in here with a wood-burning stove.
At the end of the hall is the long kitchen breakfast room. This leads through into the family room at one end and the utility and cloakroom at the other. This is very much the hub of the home.
Upstairs there are now five bedrooms and two bathrooms. The large master bedroom has fitted wardrobes and a very spacious en suite shower room.

CLEVER LAYOUT
The layout of the property has worked well for the owners on a day-to-day basis and on occasions when there have been lots of friends and family in the house. It has been decorated to a fairly neutral colour scheme throughout and features a Karndean floor downstairs.
"I like the open-plan area downstairs, where there is room to cook, eat and sit down," she says. "It is a great space for entertaining too as it flows nicely and then there are doors leading outside."
Michelle adds: "Having the separate drawing room at the front of the house has also worked well as it can be shut off away from the rest if the house."

QUIET AND PRIVATE
The garden has been enjoyed by the family over the years. There is room for outside dining and relaxation at the back. At the front, there is space for a number of cars to pull up off the road.
"We did make the driveway larger and have ensured the gardens are easy to maintain at the front and back," Michelle says. "It is very quiet and private when you are sitting outside in the warm weather."

A VIBRANT AREA
Life on Mill Ride has offered them all the convenience they were hoping for, including good access to the countryside as well as local amenities.
"We were born in Ascot and so know the local area well," she says. "There are some lovely places to walk close by and lots of pubs, as well as towns and villages for shopping."
Ascot High Street has cafés, boutiques and restaurants, while Camberley, Guildford and Windsor are also popular for shopping. There are good road and rail links, including those for travelling into London, as well as to Heathrow Airport or to the other parts of the country.
Sought-after golf clubs, including Wentworth, Sunningdale and The Berkshire, are close by, together with leisure centres and fitness clubs. Mill Ride Golf Course is opposite.
"We have enjoyed walking at Windsor or taking the boys fishing at a local fishery when they were young; Ascot Racecourse is close by for those who enjoy racing and it is also nice to spend time at Virginia Water," she adds. "This is an area which has a great deal to offer a family."

Setting The Scene

The house on Mill Ride is set back from the road on a leafy plot. It sits opposite a golf course.
To the front there is generous off-road parking, as well as an integral garage. At the back, there is a terrace area, together with a lawn. The garden is well-screened and private.
