The Story

WORK AND PLAY
In the time she has been at The Retreat she has enhanced and developed it into a magnificent home and an outstanding place to work.
“I had an annexe built and part of the garage turned into an office,” she explains. “I have enjoyed being able to position my desk where I can see my daughter riding out in the ménage.”
She has kept up to four horses at The Retreat in the past. The facilities here are excellent: they include four stables, a tack room and feed store, as well as the ménage.
The office is fully fitted out and ready for someone wishing to operate a business to just move in. There is space in there for six to 10 desks, while outside there is parking for six to 10 cars

STYLISH INTERIOR
The detached, four-bedroom, chalet-style house has been completely renovated by the owner and is today a bright home with a sleek, contemporary interior.
“Everything here is brand new and we have enjoyed it all,” she says. “I love my bedroom. Although it is very large it is also a very comfortable, welcoming space.”
The enormous bedroom is triple aspect and takes up one whole end of the first floor. It has a truly sumptuous en suite bathroom, with an incredible, sunken central bath. From here there is access to a long drawing room: “I will miss my bedroom hugely when I leave,” she adds.

ELEGANT SPACES
The other bedroom upstairs has an en suite shower room; there are two more bedrooms downstairs, which share another bathroom.
Also downstairs is the beautifully finished kitchen breakfast room, which opens into the family room. There is also a long drawing room, with double doors into the dining room, which in turn opens up on to the outside area.
“This has been a great family home and a wonderful place to welcome friends,” she says. “There is always so much space here for everyone.”

BUSINESS POTENTIAL
The annexe tends to be enjoyed by the children but could be ideal for anyone wishing to let it out or use it for staff.
The property sits in approximately 8.5 acres of land in total and the current owner has made the most of that by obtaining a licence to hold four events here a year.
“This is something new owners could do to if they wished,” she explains. “We have had up to 2,000 people camping here and have been able to have live music too.”

PLACE OF SANCTUARY
Set close to Little Horwood, The Retreat is a place of peace for the rest of the year.
“I love it because it is surrounded by countryside – it is my sanctuary,” she says.
At the same time, however, Little Horwood is just a short car journey from central Milton Keynes, with its railway station with fast trains into London and its many shops, supermarkets, pubs and bars. Nearby there are a number of National Trust properties to visit, including Hidcote and Bletchley Park, where the enigma machine was used.
“It is so easy to get around and yet you are also in such a lovely setting,” she adds. “I think the beauty of this place is that it has so much potential: there are all sorts of businesses or leisure pursuits that could take place here. I will miss it all when I leave – I have done so much to it and watched my children grow up here. It has been an incredible place to live.”

Setting The Scene

The Retreat sits in approximately 8.5 acres of land, which can be used for different purposes.
There are expanses of paddock and field. The equestrian facilities include a ménage, four stables, a tack room and feed store, together with another outbuilding, with kitchen area and cloakroom.
There is a secure gated entrance to a vast gravel driveway and parking area, which could accommodate multiple vehicles including heavy load lorries, horseboxes and trailers.
Close to the house is a sun terrace for outside entertaining, barbecues and relaxation.
