Thinking back, she remembers what drew her own parents to the
property when they were looking for a new home half a century
ago.
“They loved the hallway – it is so spacious and open,” she says. “It is
still a wonderful part of the house, especially if you are
entertaining.”
Indeed, the elegant hall is almost a room in itself. Featuring a
herringbone wooden floor and the original staircase, it offers plenty
of room for furniture too.
“There are double doors from the hallway into the drawing room so
you can open it all up to create one large space here if necessary,”
she says.
MODERN KITCHEN
Over the years they have improved and updated the five-bedroom
house significantly. Planning permission has existed in the past for
an extension and although this has now lapsed it is something new
owners could consider.
“This would have given us another bedroom and bathroom but in
the end we decided we didn’t need the extra space,” she says. “We
have carried out other work, such as replacing the kitchen three
years ago.”
This is now a bright, modern room, with a black floor, cream high
gloss units and black granite work surfaces. There are two cookers
and two microwaves.
“I think this is one of my favourite rooms,” she admits. “I love being
in here and looking out on to the garden.”
EXQUISITE INTERIORS
The kitchen has a central island, with breakfast bar, where meals
can be taken. There is also space for comfortable seating or a
breakfast table, depending on the requirements of the family.
“The rest of the house has also been redecorated in a
contemporary style,” she says.
Muted shades have been carefully chosen to ensure the interiors
remain light as well as appealing. Features such as a free-standing
bath in the bathroom and feature fireplace in the drawing room add
a touch of classical elegance that works well within a house of this
age and style.
“This house has been a very comfortable home to live in and a great
place to bring the children up,” she adds.
HAPPY TIMES
Summer and winter, there have been so many special occasions to
celebrate at the house on Mornington Road.
“We had our wedding here back in 1972,” she reminisces. “There
were about 150 guests in total, all milling about between the hall
and the drawing room. There have also been lots of barbecues in
the garden, with friends and family playing rounders out on the
lawn, and Christmases have been lovely too: the children always
love it because I put a tree in every room.”
FOND MEMORIES
Woodford Green has been a perfect location for the family, as the
children have got older and their needs have changed.
“Another reason for coming here originally was the good schools,”
she says. “We are also just 10 minutes or so from the Central Line
underground station so travelling into London from here is very
easy, and can catch buses into Loughton or Epping.”
She continues: “I will miss the convenience when we leave: it has
been nice having good shops and restaurants close by, as well as
being able to walk in the forest – and we are very near to the golf
course.”
And she adds: “There has been so much to enjoy about this house
from family times in the drawing room to summer mornings sitting
out on the balcony by the master bedroom, having breakfast and
looking out over the garden.”
