BEST & FINAL OFFERS REQUESTED BY 12 NOON ON FRIDAY 31ST MARCH 2017. Approximately 952 metres of single bank fishing on the River Wear at Byers Green, County Durham.

Guide Price £33,000 - £35,000

Location - Bishop Auckland is approximately 6 miles to the south with Durham approximately 11 miles to the north east. The fishing rights comprise an accessible beat along the mid-course of the River Wear at Byers Green extending to approximately 952 metres. The beat has vehicular and pedestrian access, either from public car parks or private parking.

Introduction - The River Wear is the smallest of the North East's three major rivers, being approximately 60 miles in length from its source at Wearhead in the Pennines, to the North Sea at Sunderland / Wearside but is recognised as one of the best Sea Trout rivers in England, and also enjoys a good run of Salmon particularly later in the season.

The fishing season on the River Wear for Salmon & Sea Trout is stipulated by the Environment Agency as:-

Salmon - 1st February to 31st October

Sea Trout - 3rd April to 30th September

Double figure Salmon and Sea Trout are caught on the River Wear on a regular basis as well as significant runs of Salmon. The river is also known for its Brown Trout fishing (wild and stocked).

Whilst there are no named pools or runs, the Byers Green beat is an attractive stretch of water with a number of runs / glides and is capable of being fished at most water levels. Generally the faster flowing shallower water is suited to fly fishing with the deeper slower moving water and pools more suitable for spinning.

Catch Returns - There are no definitive catch records for the beat, which has been fished relatively lightly in recent years. The association catch returns are summarised as follows:-
2012 - 130 Salmon caught 180 Sea Trout caught
2013 - 71 Salmon caught 137 Sea Trout caught
2014 - 55 Salmon caught, 75 Sea Trout caught
2015 - 12 Salmon caught, 165 Sea Trout caught
Total - 268 Salmon caught, 557 Sea Trout caught
Average - 67 Salmon caught, 139.25 Sea Trout caught

*Catch returns provided by BADAC covering the Club's owned and rented water on the River Wear.

A number of fine double figure fish have been caught on the beat in recent seasons although increasingly the runs of fish are occurring later in the season.
