BROOKFIELD HOUSE

South facing, Brookfield House is a fine example of an early Georgian/Queen Anne country house and is Grade II listed.
In his 1967 volume 'The Buildings of England' Nickolaus Pesvsner suggested that the house was of the mid 18th century construction. Built in the style of the late Renaissance Period, with strong Dutch influence, it was commissioned in the 1780's, by Thomas Tristram whose family lived in Breach House, on the eastern side of the village.
Sympathetically extended in the early 19th century the house remained in private ownership until 1976 when it was sold at, auction, following the death of Francis Welcome Nicholls. He was often referred to as The Potato King of Birmingham wholesale market but in reality he owed much of his fortune to the franchise which he held for the import of Fyffes bananas.

The property was bought by Roland Jones, the well known Worcestershire architect and developer. It was converted into a very up-market retirement home, but from 1984, when he was living at Brockencote Hall Chaddesley Corbett, he redeveloped it into apartments.

Enjoying unrivalled views, back, over parkland, to the village, this first floor apartment offers spacious accommodation and security and retains many of the architectural features of the original building.

BELBROUGHTON

Belbroughton is a short walk away and remains to be one of Worcestershire's most desirable villages and having good links to the national motorway network it is popular as an ideal commuters village. The population is approximately 2,380 and falls within the Bromsgrove District.

Belbroughton originally grew as a scythe making village for the large farming community of Worcestershire and it was not until the closure of the Isaac Nash factory in 1970 that scythe making finally left the village. Belbroughton is now largely residential and benefits from several popular local public houses and restaurants to include The Talbot Inn, The Queens and The Horse Shoes, with numerous other pubs and local eateries to be found in the surrounding neighbouring villages either by vehicle or by meandering around the land and woodland on foot. Within the village there is also a convenience store, post office, recreational centre with tennis courts, primary school and picturesque church.

Belbroughton Primary School is located in the village, after which students progress to Haybridge High School in the nearby village of Hagley.

Every September, the village comes to a standstill hosting the annual Scarecrow weekend with people coming from far and wide to raise money for local organisations and amenities.
