The Story

From their elegant family home at Gatcombe Crescent the current owners have savoured everything about life in Ascot. At the weekend they go for long walks through the nearby Crown Estate land or take their visitors to attractive Windsor for the day. At other times they might attend the racing at the world class venue on their doorstep or head off to a colourful local farmers’ market or other event being held at the racecourse.
“Living in Ascot is just wonderful,” she says. “There is always such a lot going on here. It is such an exciting and cosmopolitan environment, which we love as we have a global footprint ourselves. We have friends and family across the world, who like to come and see us and they enjoy it too; we can get to the airport quickly when we travel ourselves and it is very easy to get into London.”

FAMILY HOME
The three storey house was brand new when the couple bought it. The property was part of an exclusive development, built on land where royal Christmas trees were once grown, explains the owner. Externally, the house had a sophisticated, traditional appearance, while inside it offered bright rooms and a considered layout.
“When we saw it we just fell in love with it, it was very much a lifestyle choice for us,” she explains. “Our two boys were teenagers at the time and were able to have the whole top floor, where there were two bedrooms and a bathroom, to themselves. They were able to have their friends over and could go off to play football or cricket whenever they wanted.”

LIGHT HOUSE
The ground floor of the house comprises the drawing room, dining room, family room, kitchen breakfast room and utility room. On the first floor there are five bedrooms, two of which have en suite shower or bathrooms, and a family bathroom.
“We added storage to the house when we moved in but other than that have just maintained it carefully and redecorated. Some of the rooms have been painted in Farrow and Ball paints, and they are all currently in shades of white,” she says. “This is a very light house.”

FLEXIBLE LIVING
The property has worked well for the family and its flexible accommodation could also serve others with different needs.
“The top floor could be ideal as an apartment for a relative,” she suggests. “When we rented the house out for a while the couple who lived here turned it into a games room.”
The arrangement of rooms could also work well for a growing family: “It ticked all the boxes for us at different times. Even when he had left for university one of our sons used to return at weekends with six friends to stay and we didn’t even know they were there.”

WELCOME GUESTS
The Gatcombe Crescent house has always been a wonderful place in which to welcome friends and relatives.
“Since the boys have left that top floor has still worked well for us as we have been able to give visiting relatives their own space,” she explains. “This is a very comfortable and easy home to have lots of people in, and it is amazing for entertaining. There have been lots of occasions here over the years. In two weeks time I am doing a tea for 50 people, which won’t be a problem at all.”

WONDERFUL PLACE
In the summer people flow out into the garden through the French windows at the back of the house. Here there is a generous terrace for sitting out, as well as some lawn: “It is a low maintenance garden, which we wanted as we travel frequently. It is large enough for a barbecue or outside dining, and there is room for children to play ball games too.”
They will miss the internal space at the property when they leave, she admits, as well as the friendly community.
“We have really enjoyed being in this beautiful house: it has been perfect for us but now we are looking to downsize, to find something smaller but still in this area. We do love Ascot, everything we need is here. It is a wonderful place to live.”

Setting The Scene

The house is set in an attractive and exclusive location, within easy reach of Ascot High Street and beautiful places to walk and play golf.
The property, which offers parking in front of an integral double garage, has a low maintenance garden to the rear. Here there is a terrace for outside dining, an area of lawn and some mature shrubs.
