The Vendor's View - This was a handsome-looking house, large enough for our needs (with three bedrooms and space for a study) and very close to the city centre. It had a garden that, though not large, was big enough for us and certainly enough for children to play in.

The roomy kitchen is the social centre of the house where we eat, meet and talk. It is very light and airy and probably our favourite room. The house was built in the period 1810-20 on the site of what then remained of the gatehouse of the medieval St Sepulchre Nunnery. This had probably been finally demolished c. 1790-1800. The Cross Keys pub at the end of the street dates from the late mid-18th century or earlier.

The community is excellent. When the children were small there were playgroups nearby, the primary school was within easy walking distance as are the secondary schools in Old Dover Rd (Simon Langton) and St Anselms. The shops in the immediate vicinity include a convenience shop, a chemist, two popular pubs and, just round the corner, our medical surgery. At the end of the road is a Waitrose and Tesco. The walk to Canterbury East station is about 5 minutes, Canterbury West 15-20 minutes. So, although we have a car and rent a garage, we hardly need it for local activities.

We really like the convenience of the location, as well as the sense of place and historic associations and the fact that people are generally friendly. We will miss the convenience for all sorts of services. Our children are now in their late teens and they find it very easy to go out in Canterbury.
