St Johns is a 19th Century former Catholic church completed in 1868, and designed by renowned ecclesiastical architect George Goldie. It is a fine example of French Gothic style and features stunning stained glass work depicting St John the Evangelist and St Andrew. It ceased to be used as a church in 2010, and was subsequently purchased by the current owners. There then began a programme of renovation and structural rescue which has resulted in a stunning venue currently used for wedding receptions, parties and civic events. The décor has been kept elegantly neutral, with impressive reclaimed and renovated varnished timber floor, beautiful original tiling to the former altar floor, and wonderful marble decorative columns behind. A foyer area has been created and is fully equipped with modern Ladies, Gents and Disabled WC's. A stone spiral staircase in the 85 foot spire leads to the former choir, now forming a useful mezzanine level for musicians and photographers. There is gas central heating and a fire alarm system with emergency lighting in place. Parking is situated to the rear, accessed from Cotton Street, with pedestrian access to the rear porch leading from there. An impressive set of sandstone steps leads to the original front entrance vestibule with heavy arched timber doors.
