An exceptional Grade II listed working mill with Mill House and Bakery in stunning riverside setting in the heart of Hertfordshire, yet within easy access of London.
Redbournbury Millhouse is approached by the quiet Redbournbury Lane and lies amongst traditional farmland and water meadows with stunning river and countryside views. The house is Grade II listed and retains numerous original features including exposed beams, washing copper, original fireplaces, Victorian cast iron range and brick bread oven.
Redbournbury Mill has benefitted from a wonderful restoration project which took over 10 years to complete. The mill produces between 30 - 50 tonnes of stoneground organic flour each year and has a close working relationship with a neighbouring organic farm where the grain is grown. The mill is fully operational and spans over four floors. It is connected to the house via doorways on both floors. The mill not only houses the machinery, but also a museum. Variously owned for much of its history by the Abbey of St Albans, The Crown Estate and the Gorehambury Estate, the mill was traditionally operated by tenant millers. The mill was sold into private ownership in 1987. Most of the machinery at the mill is Victorian and all the power for the millstones and auxiliary machinery was provided by the waterwheel. In 1995 the owners decided that for the mill to work regularly again, an additional power source was needed. A suitable engine was found and restored and now supplies all the electrical power to the mill and potentially to the millhouse.

In 2005 one of the barns at the front of the mill was converted to a bakery. The character of this historic building has been preserved, whilst adapting the interior into a fully functioning bakery, meeting modern hygiene requirements.
There is a large open fronted barn next door to the bakery, currently used as storage with potential for development (SPP). Two WC's are situated behind the bakery, one of which is for disabled use. The building is subject to a covenant restricting any change of its use to a residential dwelling.
Redbournbury Mill is set back from the lane with generous parking for several vehicles. The principal area of garden lies to the rear of the house, partly enclosed by a brick wall. The garden has been beautifully landscaped and has spectacular river frontage. There is a large terrace area which extends out to grass and paved paths, several flower beds and mature trees including two specimen yew trees. The garden has a beautiful aspect over the river and surrounding countryside with access to the waterwheel and engine-house, leading to a further large paddock.
