MURTWELL Murtwell is a tiny hamlet in a peaceful and unspoilt part of the South Hams near Diptford, a South Hams village with a parish church and primary school. It is about five miles from Totnes and five miles from the A38 at Marley Head. There is an excellent shop/post office at near by Harbertonford. Totnes, known as an Elizabethan town but much older with a castle, a wonderful position on the River Dart and a main line railway station (London 3 hours), has a community college, a full range of shops, a weekly market and a wide choice of cultural facilities.
THE PROPERTY Tucked away in an idyllic spot right in the heart of the South Hams, Murtwell is a tiny hamlet which may seem remote but is only ten to fifteen minutes' drive from Totnes and a similar distance from the A38 at Marley Head. Dating from the 14th century, this pretty detached stone farmhouse is a property with a great deal of charm and some lovely old and characterful features including a big stone fireplace in what is now the kitchen and a winding stone secondary staircase. The south facing front of Murtwell Farmhouse, with its stucco rendered façade, is a Georgian addition with taller ceilings which contrast with the smaller rooms in the original part of the house. Murtwell Farmhouse stands in a pretty garden of just over a quarter of an acre.
