Beccles is a vibrant and expanding market town with a population of almost 14,000 residents.

DESCRIPTION
The shop is a period property, dating back to the 15thC. The building is a delightful grade II Listed property incorporating extensive fragments of a late medieval hall house. There were considerable alterations conducted in the early 17thC.following a major town centre fire in Beccles. The premises are arranged on three floors with extensive timber beams and stud work throughout. The attractive entrance room is decorated in a stenciled and hand painted replica of the scheme originally used in the early 17thC rebuild of this room. Remnants of the original rear door frame to the hall and a timber mullioned window with hinge pintles are exposed. A carved frieze rescued from the roof timbers is positioned over the early Victorian fireplace and has been identified as originating from behind the dias at the now lost high status end of the hall.

On the upper two floors there is a group of five/six rooms, that could, subject to Listed Building consent/building control be returned to a substantial two/three bedroom flat as existed prior to the current Antique business being established in 1998.

There are a multitude of oak beams and three working fireplaces throughout the building with the possibility of reopening a fourth fireplace. A generous courtyard to the rear of the property contains two brick and tile structures comprising of a lavatory with washbasin and a storeroom. These are accessed from Smallgate through a separate securely gated alleyway shared by the four adjoining properties.
