TOTNES Weston Barn is situated four miles from Totnes and within two miles of the A38 at Buckfast. The unique and charming market town of Totnes sits above the River Dart in the heart of the South Hams. The town is one of Devon's gems, the birthplace of the Transition Town movement in England and nominated in British Airways' HighLife magazine as one of the world's top ten funky towns. Full of colour and character, its atmosphere is cosmopolitan with a West Country flavour and those looking for history, alternative therapies and beautiful countryside will find it in and around Totnes. The town is said to have more listed buildings per head of the population than anywhere else in Britain. With a twice-a-week market and full of small independent shops, it's well-known for ethical products, wholefoods and fair trade goods. It is the second oldest borough in England, with an ancient Guildhall and Church, a Norman Castle and its North and East Gates. There is a well-regarded community college and a mainline railway station and Dartmoor, the South Hams and many of its fine beaches are within easy reach.
WESTON BARN Offering buyers the chance to create their own large family home in an outstanding rural position between Dartington and the A38 and close to the River Dart and the South Devon Steam Railway is Weston Barn. This large and attractive stone barn has residential planning consent for a three storey residence of about 3,000 square feet. The imaginative plans show two reception rooms and a kitchen on the ground floor and five bedrooms and four bathrooms on the two upper floors, the principal [first floor] bedroom with a vaulted ceiling. The finished property will have fine rural views to the south and east across pretty South Hams countryside.
The barn stands on a site of just under a third of an acre on part of which presently stands a covered yard for a new owner to remove, but which might be useful during the construction process. Additional land can be made available to the south of the site.
PLANNING CONSENT The South Hams District Council granted planning permission on the 20th October 2015 for the conversion of a stone barn to a residential dwelling [reference number 50/1891/15/F]. Development must be begun by not later than the expiration of three years beginning with the date of the planning permission.
