The cathedral city of Ely has a mainline station with regular trains to Cambridge and to London Kings Cross which is just over an hour away.  Ely is a market town with a good range of recreational, supermarket and shopping facilities.  There are good road links to the racing town of Newmarket which is also a well know veterinary centre.
