Standing in a plot of one third of an acre within a few minutes' walk of Saffron Walden town centre, this double-fronted five bedroom detached property is an ideal family house. Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac just off the common, the house combines easy access to the facilities of the bustling market town with a high degree of tranquillity. The house is unusually spacious for the centre of Saffron Walden comprising two exceptionally large reception rooms, five bedrooms, bathroom, shower room and a utility/laundry room. The gardens are a particular feature: the high beech hedge and other planting at the front screens the house from the street and the rear gardens (approx. 100 ft. x 100 ft) have mature trees and shrubs and a paved patio.
Saffron Walden is a thriving market town set in the rolling countryside of north-west Essex. This historic town, with its ancient market square and timbered and pargetted medieval buildings, has been rightly called 'a hidden gem, yet is within easy commuting distance of both London and Cambridge.
Visitors come from around the country to see the town's many attractions including two mazes (one in the lovely Bridge End Gardens), the Fry Art Gallery, 15th C St Mary's - one of the largest parish churches in England, and the remains of a Norman castle; and the Jacobean Audley End House and grounds, managed by English Heritage, is a short walk from the town centre. A newer attraction is Saffron Hall, which has a programme of performances by internationally renowned musicians.
As well as being a beautiful place to visit, Saffron Walden is a great place to live for all ages. There are superb leisure facilities, including gym, swimming pool, sports grounds and cinema. The shopping is excellent: together with the usual chains and supermarkets (including Waitrose) there is a good range of independents, including the new Hart's bookshop, run by Daunts, and a twice-weekly market.
All of the town's primary schools have been rated as either 'good' or 'outstanding' by Ofsted; and Saffron Walden County High, the local secondary school and sixth form, is rated as 'outstanding'.
Transport links are good. From Audley End Station there are 2 trains an hour (4 in rush hour) to Cambridge (15 minutes) and London: Tottenham Hale (Victoria Line tube) is 41 minutes on the fastest trains and Liverpool Street an hour. By car: Cambridge city centre can be reached in 30 minutes and Addenbrooke's hospital just 20 minutes; and the car journey to London is an hour.
