Exceptional 2015 award winning oak framed contemporary modern home in semi rural situation close to Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire border.

Description - A unique Carpenter Oak built, 2015 award winning and contemporary designed oak framed house, situated in a semi-rural location close to the Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire border. The design of the house combines materials and techniques more usually associated with modern industrial design, together with those of a more traditional oak framed home, creating a truly unique and stylish modern family home.
Externally the property features an attractive combination of Northamptonshire dry stone walling together with red cedar wood upper facias and large areas of glass under a stylish contemporary blue zinc roof.
Internally the open-plan configuration has been designed to provide a comfortable and spacious home ideal for entertaining yet retaining a comfortable family atmosphere. Great care and attention to detail has been given to the interior design and high quality fittings which run throughout the property. The use of steel feet under the oak frame has accentuated the feeling of light and space, creating a floating effect to the oak frame, which sits inside the main external walls and roof (all of which are formed of structural insulated panels-SIPs).
The light and airy interior shares the living spaces across both floors, with vaulted ceilings, double height voids and light filled atrium areas all making excellent use of the sunshine streaming in through the triple glazed windows. At the heart of the house is the bespoke Devol kitchen, which includes freestanding pieces including central island unit and range, which in turn opens into the dining and seating areas. The ground floor also has a double bedroom with en-suite. On the first floor stairs rise into a spacious lounge where windows lookout over a Sedum roof to the landscaped gardens. The master bedroom has en suite facilities, full height sliding glass doors protected by stylish Juliet balconies overlooking the garden and there are two further double bedrooms with similar full height glass doors and family bathroom.
The property boasts an integral LED lighting system carefully considered to allow control of most areas of the house to select programmed mood lighting and accentuate features such as the oak frame, artwork and specific seating areas. These various lighting scenes can be programmed to reflect your needs to ensure the property is filled with light whenever the time of day and whatever your mood.
Outside to the front, remote controlled gates lead to a gravelled drive way in front of the garage. The landscaped gardens lie to the side and rear of the property and includes raised decked areas providing ample opportunity for entertaining and alfresco dining.

Vendor Comments - This stunning award-winning four-bedroom oak frame eco house is located to the south-east of Rushden in a semi-rural position close to the Northamptonshire/Bedfordshire border. It was constructed in 2015 by the owners, on part of the orchard adjoining their original traditionally built home.
Having a preference for open plan living and natural materials, the owners decided to build themselves a home that was eco-friendly and more suited to their lifestyle. The result is a unique house that is only the second of its type in the UK. It is constructed using an innovative floating oak and steel frame that sits within a shell of structural insulated panels and utilises triple glazed windows and has dry stone walling sourced from a local Northamptonshire limestone quarry. The attractive stonework is complemented by red cedar cladding, which has a specialist coating to maintain its colour, while the blue zinc roof, which was chosen for its long term durability, transmits no noise when it rains, much to the surprise of visitors.
Internally, there are very few ceilings in sight, the light and airy living space at the back of the house being a high vaulted atrium, which has a 3. 7 metre glass wall that beautifully frames the established trees in the garden beyond. The ground floor is primarily devoted to a lovely open plan space with a top-of-the-range deVol kitchen plus dining and living areas offering plenty of entertaining and circulation space, especially when opened up to the extensive raised deck outside. A further living space on the first floor looks out over a flat roof planted with Sedum, which appears to meld into the garden landscape beyond.
An Air source heat pump provides a filtered and dust-free airflow throughout the house, which is helpful for those with respiratory problems, while other eco-friendly measures include a central vacuum system and rainwater harvesting. The heating and the vacuum system are discretely housed in the double garage of the house. In addition to the decking area, the garden path leads to a raised oak pergola. The remainder of the garden is mainly laid to lawn with planting in raised beds, which is now maturing in its first full growing season, while shade is provided by established trees.
Pleasantly set well outside the urban area of Rushden, the house is nevertheless within easy reach of all its amenities, including the new Lakeside shopping and leisure development near the A45. In a wider context, the M1 and the larger centres of Northampton, Milton Keynes and Bedford are also readily accessible

The property is accessed through a bespoke contemporary styled door. You are immediately hit by the double height glass atrium framing the garden beyond. The landscaped gardens lie principally to the side and rear of the property. A large sun terrace leads to areas of raised decking, ideal for entertaining and alfresco dining, with further borders. The remainder of the gardens are largely laid to lawn with further planted borders and a number of well positioned mature trees. The gardens are enclosed by post and rail fencing with a laurel hedge.
