No Chain: Granary Cottage is a beautiful four double bedroom, 1600's period property which has been renovated into a modern property yet retaining original features. Off road parking is by means of a double garage. Externally there is a mature front garden. Internally comprising: entrance hall, lounge, bespoke farmhouse kitchen diner, w.c., and bathroom to the ground floor. There is master fitted bedroom with ensuite and three further double bedrooms. The property benefits from gas central heating, exposed beams and period style double glazed windows. An internal inspection is recommended to appreciate the spacious accommodation on offer with further potential to extend into the attic.

HISTORICAL NOTES "Sour" meant that the land was diffficult for cultivation - the meaning of "acres" - acer or aker was a "tilled field". A "fold" was an enclosure for animals, a name later used for a small group of houses, built around the "fold" in the period of woollen cloth manufacture, where sheep could be penned and the fleeces sheared.

This is a largely re-built substantial 17th century weaver's house. The work has given the property the set-back chamfered mullioned windows of this period and offset entry into stairs passage, with a large number of "weaver's windows", as would have been owned by a wealthy cloth weaver or merchant, who employed a good number of outworkers or had a large extended family.
Of interest is the fact that the small window on the right would have been a fire hood window, brick chimneys being much later. This tells us that the original house was one story only and open to the roof, the upper two light window with square mullions being added to make the front more symmetrical when the first floor was added much later. The upper floor chamfered mullioned windows on the left, tell us that the house was re-built over a considerable period.

The properties in the "fold" date back to the time of woollen manufacture, with spinning and combing taking place on the ground floor near the main fireplace and weaving on the upper floor, which would have been open to the roof.
